Cardston Drug Mart robbed, RCMP request assistance

RCMP Cardston - The RCMP request assistance in solving a break and enter.  On Sunday, August 21, 2016 the Value Drug Mart in Cardston, Alberta was broken into at approximately 3:30 am.  The culprit made off with several bottles of over the counter medication.

The suspect is described as:

• Male
• 6’ feet tall
• 130 pounds
• Wearing a black sweater
• Black jeans
• Adidas shoes
• Red balaclava

Watch out for school buses or face hefty fines

Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek First Student busing wants to remind the public that school season is about to begin starting September 1. This means young people walking in town and in the country, going to school, and school bus stops. First Student faced a dilemma in the spring when they realized an alarming number of drivers were passing buses that were in the process of picking up or dropping off children. To raise awareness First student started a 'Reds Flashing = No Passing' campaign. Now they are upping the ante: 'Don't fly past school buses with flashing red lights... because our eagle eyes are on the lookout.' What that means is RCMP Auxiliary Constable Mel Massini will be randomly riding along in school buses to observe and take down license plate numbers.  He stated he is willing and ready to appear in court to testify against those who just don't get it.

Over 160 check-stops were planned throughout the Province of Alberta on Saturday, December 7, one of the coldest days to date this year throughout the province.  This initiative involved all law enforcement across Alberta.

For the Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass areas a check-stop was held at the Burmis Weigh Scales on Highway 3.  This was a combined effort that on behalf of RCMP, Conservation Officers, and
Inspection Services.

"It's an awareness thing," said Constable Doug Sokoloski.  "This is a huge public relations initiative."  With Christmas approaching all law enforcement would like to remind the public that drinking and driving is illegal and it is being enforced.

The officers involved were checking for impaired drivers, checking lights, and making sure windshields were intact.  They checked for proper documentation including drivers licence, registration and insurance.  Conservation officers checked with hunters, and Inspection Services checked large vehicles to make sure that they were safe for the road.

"Throughout the holiday season we will be holding check-stops at various random locations," said Sokoloski.  The purpose is to deter people from driving impaired, make sure vehicles are roadworthy and ensure a safer holiday season for everyone.

Addendum: In addition to the entities mentioned above, 8 members of the Pincher Creek District Citizens on Patrol were also helping out at this checkstop.  They also provided  coffee, donuts, and muffins for the workers all day.

High Risk Sex Offender and Child Predator on the loose

The Lloydminster RCMP is asking the public to be on the look out for 48 year old Michael Sean Stanley of Edmonton, AB.

Stanley is a high risk sex offender, who was on electronic monitoring.  This morning Stanley left Edmonton and came to Lloydminster and cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet.  The bracelet was found on the roof of a local business located in the 4300 block of 54 Avenue.

Missing Cardston man found dead near Pincher Creek, likely of natural causes

Earlier today Cardston RCMP  requested public help in locating 70 year old  Kenneth Rollins after his family reported him missing to the RCMP on September 6.  Mr. Rollins left his residence on August 31st, 2013, with an unspecified return time.

Today Pincher Creek RCMP contacted Cardston RCMP to inform them that Mr. Rollins had been found deceased at a secluded forestry reserve campsite near Pincher Creek.  Next of kin have been notified and his death is not considered to be suspicious.

According to Corporal Charles Brown of the Cardston RCMP "Preliminary investigations at the site indicate that he died of natural causes."

Quad accident victim leaves town by STARS

On August 26 at approximately 6:00 pm Pincher Creek Rescue and Pincher Creek Ambulance responded to a quad accident 4 miles south of the town of Pincher Creek.

The female driver of the quad was injured and STARS air ambulance was put on alert due to the nature of her injuries.

The victim was transported to Pincher Creek Hospital then transported to Calgary by STARS.

Fort Macleod RCMP investigating vehicle vandalism and theft of batteries and cables

Sometime during the night of Wednesday, August 13th, 2013 batteries and copper battery cables were stolen from farm vehicles. The vehicles were parked on a farm residence located 3 Km North of Fort Macleod on Highway 810. The batteries and cables were removed from a John Deere tractor and a Semi Tractor unit.

Mischief to Vehicle

Friday, August 16th, 2013 at 3:30 a.m., the Fort Macleod RCMP were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of 23rd Street for a call of vandalism to a vehicle.

The owner of a Dodge Caravan parked outside his residence had heard glass breaking outside his residence. Upon going outside to investigate the noise he observed the side widow of his van had been broken. He saw two native males and one native female leaving the scene. The female was detained by the resident while awaiting the arrival of RCMP. While waiting one of the males returned and threatened the man to let go of the female. The resident complied and all the subjects fled the scene.

Fort Macleod RCMP investigating Mischief incident

On the morning of May 25, 2013 between 2:36 am and 2:56 am a Mischief under $5000 was committed to a business on 12 Street within the 200 block of Fort Macleod, AB.

A window to a privately owned building in the industrial area of Fort Macleod was smashed inward for no apparent reason.  Damage to the window was over $300. A tall skinny younger male wearing a ball cap, coat, and pants was seen in the area at the time of damage. Police are looking to speak to this individual in regards to the damage that was done.

May 23, 2013  – The Google Doodle today honours the 140th Anniversary of our “Mounties” so we went in search of some history for our readers. We found it by going straight to the source – the RCMP website:

On May 23, 1873, the Dominion Parliament passed an act to provide for the establishment of a “Mounted Police Force for the Northwest Territories”. The Force was recruiting men between the ages of 18 and 40, of sound constitution, able to ride, active, able-bodied and of good character. The pay was set at 75 cents per day for sub-constables, $1.00 for constables. Furthermore, the men were required to “be able to read and write either the English or French language.”

Piikani Nation RCMP investigating death of pedestrian, seeks public's assistance

Piikani Nation RCMP say they have no suspect vehicle right now in this incident.  "We thought we did," said Constable Tyrone Potts, "Now we're suspecting a piece of board came off a vehicle and struck our pedestrian in the face, killing her."  Constable Potts said it was likely a 2x4 or a 2x6 that struck her.

RCMP Constable Scott Stafford is one of the many law enforcement officers working while many Alberta citizens are playing this long weekend.  He was manning a radar gun pointed east on Highway 3 west of Highway 22 this afternoon.  I asked him if he was catching many speeders.  "Lots," he said.  "Way more than we should be."

Coincidentally, an unmarked patrol car pulled a westbound driver over a few hundred yards away  on the other side of the highway, cutting into Constable Stafford's action.   He said that although they were working towards the same purpose, they weren't working together.

Constable Robert Wright says goodbye to Pincher Creek

Constable Robert Wright has been seen in the Pincher Creek area for the last six years at Remembrance Day Ceremonies,  in schools, out in public with his family, and on the job as a member of the local RCMP force.

Most recently he was handing out graduation certificates for students who participated in the Canyon School DARE program, for which he has long served as a volunteer.  Now he is saying goodbye to Pincher Creek, as he has been assigned a new RCMP position in the Lake Louise/Banff area.

Identity theft has been in existence for some time, but given the advances of technology, such crime and other related crimes are more prevalent than before. Identity theft occurs when someone wrongfully obtains and uses the personal identifying information of another individual to commit a crime such as fraud or theft.

By using an individual’s basic information (name, address, social insurance number, date of birth, mother’s maiden name) identity thieves may gain access to bank accounts, apply for loans/credit cards, lease/buy cars, rent property and/or engage in criminal activity that ultimately gets associated to an unsuspecting victim.
