Evacuation Alert issued for Hamlet of Moon River Estates

Municipal District of Willow Creek No. 26, issued Tues. Oct. 17, 2917, 8:25 pm: A wildfire is being fought at the Hamlet of Moon River Estates in the south east corner of the M.D. of Willow Creek. Those who have not yet evacuated, please gather at the Horse Paddock by the river in the Hamlet and follow all instructions from Emergency Services and Law Enforcement. A reception center is open in Fort Macleod Hall on Highway 3. (307-25th Street).

MD of Pincher Creek to receive $296,170 in STIP funding for culvert projects

Chris Davis - Today the Alberta Government announced $100 million in Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) funding for 87 municipal road, bridge and community airport projects in 50 communities across the province over three years, including more than $37 million approved for projects in 2017 and 2018. The Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9 has been approved for a total STIP contribution of $296,170 for two culvert replacement projects. One of those projects is the replacement of a culvert on Township Road 60 over Kettles Creek near the Town of Pincher Creek, and the other is the replacement of a culvert on Township Road 94A over South Todd Creek near Burmis. The municipality will contribute $66,957 total in funding for the two projects. Nearby, the County of Cardston has been promised $1,025,764 in STIP funding toward four bridge rehabilitation projects, and the MD of Willow Creek has been promised $589,650 in STIP funding toward a bridge replacement project on Flying E Road over Kuntz Creek.

District Championships track meets held at St. Michael's field

Josh Davis - On Tuesday May 26 the track and field behind St. Michael’s school in Pincher Creek was filled with young athletes, attending the 2016 Southwest Junior High Athletic Association league championships. 8 schools were in attendance, including St Michael's School, Matthew Halton High School, Livingstone, FP Walshe, Willow Creek Composite, Crowsnest Pass Consolidated, Piikani School, and Tatsikiisaapo'p Middle School from Kainai. The event ran from 9:00am to 3:30pm. It was rainy in the morning, but the athletes pushed through it until the sunny afternoon arrived. As the Zone qualifier, the top two athletes from each district in each event got to head to Zones, which will take place in Lethbridge this year. Medals were given out to the competitors at the end of the day.

Pincher Creek's Hawks High School baseball team rebounded from a 1-8 deficit to ultimately defeat Willow Creek's Cobras 11-9 at Sproule Field on Tuesday evening, May 19.  The winning run came for the Hawks when Matthew Duncan stole home, and successfully stolen bases in the latter half of the game played a big part in the Hawks' victory.
