Out and About: Group Group Youth photogs visit Pincher Creek and Lundbreck Falls

Group Group Youth's photography program continues to inspire young talent.  Here are some photos by Andrew Yellow Horn (age 11) and Damian Arnot (age 12) taken recently at Lundbreck Falls and the Pincher Creek.

Pincher Creek area photographer Josiah Launstein - more than you expect

I see myself as a messenger speaking up for those not usually heard. Through my lens I don't see animals, I see friends. My neighbours share their homes with me but because of us they're disappearing... and if they go, so do we. - Josiah Launstein

Josiah Launstein and his father John of Launstein Imagery traveled to Thailand for 13 days of intensive Nikon film production in July and August of this year for a film project on Josiah and his wildlife and conservation photography. The Youtube video above has had almost 900,00 views in the days since it was published on December 6.  Josiah is an 11 year old wildlife photographer. The Launstein family lives west of the Oldman River Dam, north of Pincher Creek.

Christian Davis - For the Launstein family, professional wildlife photography is a passion and also the family business. All of that came together at the early July opening of their art gallery on Blairmore's main street (20th Avenue).

Heart Waters: land use and the shrinking of Alberta’s rivers

On Wednesday November 4, 2015 Kevin Van Tighem gave a public presentation at Lundbreck Hall, serving to sign and sell copies of his book, Heart Waters – Sources of the Bow River, as well as to discuss land use and the shrinking of Alberta’s rivers. Heart Waters was written by Kevin Van Tighem and photographed by his son Brian Van Tighem. The book sales also served as a fundraiser for the Livingstone Landowners Group (LLG).

Cowley area resident Gerry Smith took the above picture on October 29 east of Cowley on Highway 3. It's a reminder that it gets dark early and deer are plentiful, even more so in coulees, so be alert. According to the Alberta Ministry of Transportation the number of wildlife collisions in the province doubles in November, from an average of 1,100 each month to 2,280.
