The big red barn gets a new coat of paint in time for winter

Heritage Acres with the support of Federated Co-op and their 'Communities in Full Colour'  program and a whole lot of volunteers painted the Vogelaar/Zoeteman barn ranch red on August 9 and 10. Member of Parliament for Foothills Alberta John Barlow was one of the many volunteers who donned work clothes to lend a helping hand.   A contractor painted the higher portions of the project.  The barn was moved to Heritage Acres in 2014, and has since been  re-roofed, windows have been replaced, and the new coat of paing finishes the exterior.  Related link:  The Barn Move

Heritage Acres holds 2018 Annual Show

Toni Lucas - Heritage Acres held their 2018 Annual Show over the August long weekend, and celebrated how the stationary engine made people's lives easier by mechanizing farming related tasks. It also indirectly celebrated families. Everywhere on the extensive grounds families were enjoying time with each other and the multitudinous exhibits. Children were enjoying activities like rope making and trying out pedal and miniature tractors. Adults enjoyed the machines, the cool weather, and the nostalgia.

Heritage Acres holds second annual Horse Show and Chuckwagon Supper

Toni Lucas - Heritage Acres held their Second Annual Horse Show and Chuckwagon Supper on Saturday, June 9,  a day of warm weather and sunny skies.  The organization has the aim of preserving and presenting to the public the history of rural life in this area of Alberta, and it works closely with those currently involved in rural life.  The show not only had a variety of horse demonstrations but celebrated the Achievement Day for two local 4-H clubs; Silver Reins and Multi Club.

Toni Lucas - 4-H Silver Reins Light Horse Club  2018 Achievement Day was held at Heritage Acres on Saturday, June 9.  The club has seven participants who started with the club in September, but many have been with the club for multiple years. Achievement day tested the abilities and personal growth of these young riders, who are broken up in age groups. Held in such a public place the children are not only judged for their abilities and comportment, they also have the opportunity of getting to show their progress to people who came to see the Heritage Acres Horse Show.

Heritage Acres hosts amazing 30th anniversary bash

T. Lucas/C. Davis - This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Heritage Acres Farm Museum, a continually developing 180 acre attraction located north of the Town of Pincher Creek. The Heritage Acres Annual Show was held on the Heritage Long Weekend August 4 - 6. It was filled with fun, laughter, music, and it even made some history of it's own. Attendance was way up this year. "We started to run out of parking, both for the RVs and vehicles," said Heritage Acres Executive Director Mark Barber. "I think this weekend broke a number of our records." Saturday's crowd alone was estimated to be over 1500 people.

2017 Heritage Acres Horse Show and Chuck Wagon Supper a huge success

Chris Davis - On June 10 Heritage Acres Farm Museum hosted its Horse Show and Chuck Wagon Supper, which combined a variety of elements into one crowd pleasing event.  The weather was warm and sunny for most of the day, and even when the temperature dipped a bit in the evening the overflow crowd for the chuck wagon supper kept each other warm.  Two local 4-H clubs, Silver Reins and Pincher Creek Multi Club, held their annual achievement events as well.  Bruce Christie's horse training demonstration was a big hit, as was various skill demonstrations by Silver Reins members.

Local organizations receive provincial grants

Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier was in the Pincher Creek area earlier this month with Government of Alberta cheques in hand to pass on to local organizations, grants to be used in current projects. Pincher Spray Park Society received $125,000, as did Pincher Creek Curling Club. Oldman River Antique Equipment and Threshing Club/Heritage Acres received $10,000. The Alberta Whitewater Association also received $11,835.

Toni Lucas - Heritage Acres hosted their fifth annual Fall Fair on Saturday, Sept. 17.  This year they had displays, demonstrations, bench exhibits, and a market with 35 vendors.  There were some new additions including a turkey shoot, a barn hunt for dogs, book readings. and other activities.

Our 30th Annual Show will be August 4, 5 and 6th 2017 where we’ll be honouring International Harvester. Plan to come and celebrate Canada’s 150th year and the official opening of the Zoeteman/Vogelaar barn.

Toni Lucas - Heritage Acres Farm Museum, located northeast of Pincher Creek near the Oldman River Dam, held their 29th Annual Show on the August Long weekend 2016.  This year the extravaganza held more than ever before.  Heritage Acres President Ken Lewis was delighted with the program and the turnout.  "We are honouring the Ford New Holland line of equipment this year.  We have a lot going on," he said.  In addition to perennial favorites like the Parade of Power, saw mill demonstrations, and tractor pulls, there was a working blacksmith shop demonstration, nail pounding, rope making, and a pedal tractor farm for the kids.  There was food in abundance including a pancake breakfast, a steak supper and dance, and concession areas on the grounds.  This was all in addition to the many historical displays and buildings open to the public on the site.

Gaytha Heighes for Ken Lewis, President - Most of the residents of the area remember that the famed and exciting Chuckwagon Supper was hosted by Heritage Acres for 13 years. It was a very special attraction for Heritage Acres, lots of fun, even in the rain, and it was a good fund-raiser too. Two years ago it went to the Agricultural Society, to our disappointment.

Heritage Acres receives $29,450 CFEP grant for dairy exhibit

Christian Davis - Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier presented a $29,450 cheque from the Government of Alberta to members of the Oldman River Antique Equipment and Threshing Club (ORAETC) board in a low-key ceremony on May 7 at the Heritage Acres Farm Museum, which is located in the MD of Pincher Creek just north of the Oldman River Dam.  ORAETC is the museum's administrative body.  The funds will go toward the ongoing restoration of the Zoeteman/Vogelaar Barn, which was moved from it's original home just northeast of the Town of Pincher Creek to Heritage Acres in early February, 2014.

Heritage Acres holds 28th Annual Show

The Heritage Acres 2015 Annual Show was held July 31 - August 2 under blissfully sunny skies, and featured the inaugural show of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club.

Pincher Creek 4-H Multi Club Achievement Day was held on Sunday, June 7.  This club is called "Multi" because there are various projects and the kids choose what they want to be involved in from October to June.  The projects this year included:  Market hog, Shooting, Small Engine Repair, Outdoor Adventure, Canine, Poultry, and Pheasant.  The day began with a shooting demonstration, then moved to Heritage Acres where there was a demonstration of the small engine repair, and presentations from all the other projects.

After surviving an amazing trip, the Zoeteman/Vogelaar barn move was successful and now it sits on a new foundation out at Heritage Acres Farm Museum. The project continues as the barn interior now has to be renovated so the space can be utilized for museum displays. The barn roof will be the first part of the renovation project and once that is completed the interior walls will be fixed and the lower and upper floors will be prepared for displays. There is a lot of work yet to do but again individuals have stepped forward to help with the actual work and others have generously donated to buy the materials.

Fundraising continues to ensure the completion of the project which will include a detailed history of the barn. Anyone with any knowledge of the building of the barn is asked to contact the director of Heritage Acres so that a historical display can be added to the information already gathered.

Vogelaar/ Zoeteman Barn moves to Heritage Acres

On Monday February 2 teams of workers descended on the Vogelaar/Zoeteman barn, just west of Pincher Creek on the north side of Highway 785.  Their task: to separate it from the foundations it was built upon, raise it, and prepare the way for the two pieces to be reunited on new foundations at Heritage Acres.

Chris Davis - Attendance numbers were disappointing to organizers of Heritage Acres Farm Museum's 2013 Fall Fair, but the weather was perfect and those that did attend were treated to an old fashioned good time.  One of the highlights of the event was the Parade of Power, which showcased antique farm machinery, with an emphasis this time on crawlers.

Old Man River Antique Equipment and Threshing Club President Bob Mitchell and Executive Director Bill Kells appeared as a delegation before the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 Council on Tuesday, May 14 to update them about Heritage Acres, which the club administers.

Vogelaar Barn project

One of the main topics of their presentation was the planned moving of the historic Vogelaar Barn to the Heritage Acres site. That project is expected to commence in February 2014.
