Hiker injured during a fall on Victoria Peak

At approximately 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 21 a woman was hiking with a group of people when she fell approximately 50 metres down a steep slope on Victoria Peak, at a location about one and a half hours from the group's staging area. The woman was conscious and able to walk.  Members of the group accompanied her to bring her down the mountain. She was met on the mountain by rescue teams and taken to Pincher Creek Hospital by ambulance then later transferred to Lethbridge by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

Victoria Peak is a popular hiking area in the Castle-Crown Wilderness Area, approximately 20 km southwest of the Town of Pincher Creek.

Pincher Creek Emergency Services, RCMP, Search and Rescue, Beaver Mines Fire Hall, Alberta Parks, Fish and Wildlife, and STARS dispatch personnel worked together during this incident.

Calgary climber rescued from Victoria Peak

At 5:30 pm on June 2  Pincher Creek Fire Rescue and RCMP were notified that a climber had fallen and was injured on Victoria Peak, 20 km south of Pincher Creek Alberta.

A 50 year old male from Calgary was climbing the mountain, and after reaching the summit was descending when he fell crossing a snow filled area, sliding approximately 20 meters and striking a tree. He receive serious but non life threatening injuries to his chest, and was unable to continue on his own.

Pincher Creek Fire/Rescue and Search and Rescue members were able to hike into the site and stabilize the victim, and due to the rugged terrain and high elevation, Alpine Helicopters public safety helicopter from Canmore was used to transport rescue personnel onto the mountain and sling the patient out below the helicopter.

The victim is being treated in hospital for his injuries, and is expected to recover.
