Police car rammed in Red Deer

RCMP Alberta - Red Deer RCMP are investigating after a truck rammed a police car during an early morning traffic stop then fled the scene. Shortly after 2:00 am on September 22, RCMP initiated a traffic stop on a truck on 40 Avenue north of Township Road 375 in Red Deer. The truck stopped initially, then reversed and rammed the police cruiser, turning it 180 degrees and pushing it toward a ditch. The collision resulted in the air bags deploying, causing minor injuries to the police officer; he was able to exit the cruiser while it was being pushed as there was a danger of the cruiser overturning when it struck the ditch. EMS attended and treated the police officer at the scene.  RCMP located the abandoned truck a short time later. Police Dog Services attended and tracked the male suspect for some time before losing the track.

Red Deer RCMP seize drone

RCMP Alberta (corrected for accuracy) - Red Deer RCMP have seized a drone from a citizen after responding to reports the drone was being flown near the flight path of STARS Air Ambulance as the helicopter made an approach to Red Deer hospital the morning of March 29.  RCMP responded to the report at 9:25 am on March 29 and located the owner of the drone shortly afterward. Police seized the foldable Mavic Pro drone as part of the investigation into whether the drone was in violation of the Federal Aeronautics Act.

Alberta man charged with child sexual exploitation, cruelty to animals

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation team has arrested a 25-year-old man from Nevis, Alta. for child sexual exploitation, cruelty to animals, and firearms offences. The hamlet of Nevis is 60 kilometers east of Red Deer.  The Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) team arrested Cris Marshall on October 12, 2016 with the assistance of RCMP Stettler officers. Marshall came under investigation after he allegedly uploaded child sexual exploitation material via a social media account.

A tie and a loss vs Red Deer Chiefs for Pincher Creek's Midget Huskies

On Friday evening February 5 Pincher Creek's Midget Huskies hosted the Red Deer Chiefs at the MCC Arena in Pincher Creek. The Midgets looked strong coming out of the first period, eking a small lead, but the Chiefs tied the game in the second. Both teams scored a single goal in the third period, and the game ended in a 4-4 draw.  The next day the Huskies again hosted the Chiefs, this time at the Coleman rink.  The Chiefs won that encounter 5-2.
