MCU South assists Blood Tribe police with homicide invesigation

RCMP Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU) - On February 23, 2018 at approximately 11:08 pm, Members of the Blood Tribe Police Service were dispatched to assist a man in Stand Off, Alberta who was reported to be in distress. The Blood Tribe Police Service attended the location with EMS and the male was transported to a local area Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The scene remains secured by police pending autopsy which has been scheduled for February 26, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Calgary Medical Examiner's Office.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU) has taken carriage of the investigation and is being assisted by the RCMP Forensic Investigation Section (FIS) and the Blood Tribe Police Service.

Coaldale rural residential B&E suspects arrested

RCMP Alberta - On February 11, 2017 at approximately 11:50 am the Coaldale RCMP responded to a break and enter complaint in progress at a rural property south of Coaldale. The two suspects left the scene with the property owners giving chase. After a minor collision on Highway 845 Coaldale RCMP members arrested the two suspects that fled on foot.

Blood Tribe Police Service - On January 18, 2017 the Blood Tribe Police Service arrested a male at a residence in Standoff, Alberta located on the Blood Indian Reserve.  Investigation revealed the male was unlawfully in a residence that was property of Blood Tribe Housing and the accused was subsequently arrested. Upon searching the accused incidental to the arrest, he was found to be in the possession of crack cocaine, crystal meth, Canadian currency, and two cell phones. The accused was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000.

On Monday, January 11, 2016, Blood Tribe Police Service (BTPS) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with the assistance of BTPS Patrols initiated a search of a residence in the town of Standoff on the Blood Indian Reserve. Investigation at the scene lead to the arrest of Kyle Mitchell Saddleback and the seizure of a significant amount of illicit drugs. Kyle Mitchell Saddleback was on release conditions for previous charges and had been served papers through a Blood Band Council Resolution not to be on the Blood Indian Reserve.

One man has died and a woman was critically injured following a single vehicle collision on Highway 2 Saturday evening. The collision took place at approximately 5:00 pm near the community of Standoff, AB. The SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 2 when it failed to negotiate a bend in the highway resulting in the vehicle losing control and rolling into a nearby field.

On January 25, 2015, the Blood Tribe Police Service Crime Reduction Unit received an anonymous tip from the community, based on the information provided a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed on a residence in the community of Standoff. Located inside the residence was sawed off shotgun, shotgun ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and a sword.
