Fire advisories in effect for Crowsnest Pass, Cardston County, Longview, Calgary Forest Area

Municipality of Crowsnest Pass 

A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass due to increasingly dry conditions. All active fire permits are cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued until further notice.

What is allowed

• Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings), backyards, or random camping areas
• Charcoal briquettes
• Portable propane fire pits
• Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
• Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Off-Highway vehicles can start wildfires – check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.  Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Cardston County

"Due to a change in condition(s) within the County, we are currently implementing a Fire Advisory for all areas of the County. We are requesting that you use extreme caution while using the permit process. Permits are still being issued."

Village of Longview

Conditions are warming up and drying out. Please be careful with open flame and ensure your fires are thoroughly extinguished.

Calgary Forest Area

A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Calgary Forest Area due to increasingly dry conditions.  All active fire permits are cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued until further notice.

Hwy 22 closed from Hwy 3 to Hwty 533 due to wildfire

511.alberta.ca - Highway 22 from Highway 533 to Highway 3 (south of Chain Lakes and northwest of Lundbreck) is closed due to a wildfire in the area. Expect reduced visibility due to smoke. Drive with caution.

Alberta Emergency Alert update issued Wednesday October 25, 4:56 pm  - There is a mandatory evacuation order for residents on all of Chimney Rock Road and south to Highway 520 on the west side of Highway 22. This is an evacuation alert for residents north of Chimney Rock Road to Highway 533 on the west side of Highway 22. Residents evacuating please call the Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66 office at 403-646-3131.

Truck, skid steer, and trailer stolen near Longview

RCMP Alberta - Sometime between 5:00 pm on Tuesday August 16 and 8:00 am Wednesday August 17, 2017, a white 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck along with a 24 ft tandem wheel trailer and a Case SR250 Yellow Skid Steer were stolen from the Diamond V Ranch located at 48th St and 576 Ave between High River and Longview.

The RCMP investigation has not identified any witnesses or suspects in this investigation. Motorcyclist dies in Longview area collision, 5 others injured

RCMP Alberta - RCMP in Turner Valley assisted by the RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate a two vehicle collision on Highway 22 near the intersection of Highway 540 near Longview, Alberta which occurred on July 31, 2016 at approximately 5:00 pm. Initial investigation shows a northbound motorcycle with two riders struck the side of an SUV that was performing a U-turn across the Highway. The 45 year old male operator of the motorcycle died at Oilfields Hospital (in Black Diamond) while the 12 year old passenger was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Children's Hospital in Calgary, where he is in stable condition. The four occupants of the SUV were transported to local hospital with minor injuries.

Although the investigation is ongoing, speed and driver error are believed to be factors. A 39 year old male from Washington State has been charged with an Unsafe U-Turn under Section 29(1) Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulations.

Little New York Daze Parade held in Longview

With the street lined with people Longview’s Little New York Daze parade had a little excitement to start with. Emergency vehicles left town, with sirens and lights, but headed south, responding to an emergency.

The parade carried on and the sun continued to shine throughout the day as spectators attended the events in the school yard and shopped at the various markets along main street.

The High River entries were missed and a tribute to the first responders was included in this year’s parade.

The Parade Marshalls were the Gallop family. On the parade’s return trip back down main street two of the family were seen pushing the car that carried them.
