Dragons Boys and Kainai Girls win Chinook League's 2017 Post Season Tournament

Chris Davis - The 2017 Chinook Basketball League 2017 Post Season Tournament was held March 2-4, co-hosted by Pincher Creek's St. Michael's and Matthew Halton High Schools.  Teams from 10 Chinook League member schools participated.  Kainai's Lady Warriors earned Gold in the Girls division.  St. Michael's Dragons earned Gold in the Boys division.  Second place Girls was earned by Matthew Halton's Hawks. Lundbreck's Livingstone Sabres Boys earned Silver.  Third place Girls went to St. Michael's Dragons and third place Boys went to Kainai's Warriors.  The league's year end banquet and awards were held on Friday evening, and is the subject of a separate story (click here).

Toni Lucas - The 2017 Chinook League Basketball Post Season Awards banquet was held on Friday evening March 3, at Matthew Halton School midway through the Chinook post season basketball tournament (that story soon).  Dinner was prepared from the Hawks Nest school cafeteria kitchen and served by volunteers.  After dinner Hawks coach/Chinook League organizer Randy Whitehead acted as Master of Ceremonies and handed out the awards.

Dragons Boys and Kainai Girls earn gold at 2017 Chinook League Post Season Basketball Tournament

The 2017 Chinook Basketball League Post Season Tournament and Awards Banquet was held last weekend, with games at St. Michael's and Matthew Halton School. St. Michael's Dragons Boys and Kainai's Lady Warrior earned Gold. Livingstone's Sabres Boys and the Halton Hawks Girls* earned Silver. Poor Lethbridge area roadways during holiday season

RCMP Alberta - Between December 23, 2016 and December 27, 2016 the Coaldale RCMP responded to nearly 30 collisions on highways surrounding the City of Lethbridge. The weather conditions were very poor with extreme winds, heavy snow falls and then windy blowing snow conditions.

RCMP Alberta - Coaldale RCMP along with Fire/EMS from Coalhurst and Lethbridge this afternoon and evening have responded to numerous collisions on Highway 3 just west of the Coalhurst access.

The 2016 Chinook Basketball Post Season Championship Tournament took place from Thursday March 3 to Saturday March 5, spread out across four different schools.

On Thursday games 1 and 2 of the tournament were played at 6 pm. In Nanton, JT Foster played County Central, while Matthew Halton played Piikani in Brocket. Matthew Halton and JT Foster won their games, and advanced to the next round.

The 2014 Chinook Senior Post Season Boys and Girls basketball tournament was held in Pincher Creek at St. Michael's and Matthew Halton High Schools on Friday and Saturday March 7-8. Boys teams included  Nobleford's Central Blades, Matthew Halton's Hawks, Livingstone's Sabres, St. Michael's Dragons, F.P. Walshe's Flyers, Piikani's Redskins, Coalhurst's Trojans, and the County Central Hawks. Girls teams were St. Michael's Dragons, County Central's Hawks, J.T. Foster's Raiders, Nobleford's Central Blades, Matthew Halton's Hawks, Crowsnest Pass Pandas, and the Coalhurst's Crusaders.

 The Livingstone Sabres won the boys championship banner, and the Coalhurst Crusaders won the girls championship banner.

"This is our second year hosting it in a row, but we've hosted it four, five times in the last eight years," said Tournament organizer, Matthew Halton Athletic Director, and Halton Hawks Senior Girls Coach Randy Whitehead. "This really can't be done without the parents support, and all those that help out."

Matthew Halton' Senior Girls Hawks hosted the Coalhurst Crusaders in Pincher Creek on Monday, February 24. The Hawks were playing at their best, getting an early lead and keeping it going for the first three quarters of the game, working the rebounds, and putting up a strong offense.

St. Michael's Senior boys basketball team hosted the Coalhurst Trojans on January 15 in Pincher Creek.  The Dragons put in a good effort but the Trojans took the win 78-38 .

St. Michaels Senior Girls basketball team hosted the Coalhurst Crusaders on January 15 in Pincher Creek for a close game of  basketball that was quite exciting to watch. These two teams were so evenly matched much for much the first two quarters the scoreboard displayed tied scores often, with ties again happening in the fourth quarter. The crowd was on the edge of their seats the whole game. The Crusaders ultimately earned a narrow victory with a final score of 56 - 62.
