Fatality at Teck's Fording River Operations

A fatal incident occurred at Teck's Fording River Operations yesterday April 9 at approximately 8:40 am. A floating excavator flipped, and a contractor employee was trapped in a tailings pond, resulting in his death. His name has not been released at this time. Divers were dispatched to attempt a recovery of his body. No other employees or contractors were injured. An investigation into the incident is now underway.

Teck's Fording River Operations is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Sparwood B.C.

At least three workers from Teck Coal Ltd.’s Coal Mountain Operations were injured in a morning bus crash not far from the mine’s front gate (approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Sparwood) on December 10. “A bus transporting employees from our Coal Mountain Operations back to town with 12 passengers on board slid off the public road this morning,” reported Nic Milligan, Teck’s Manager, Community and Aboriginal Affairs.

Teck to implement staggered temporary shutdowns at its six Canadian coal operations

Teck Resources Limited (TSX: TCK.A and TCK.B, NYSE: TCK) ("Teck") announced today it will be implementing temporary shutdowns in the third quarter at its six Canadian steelmaking coal operations in order to align production and inventories with changing coal market conditions.

Each of Teck’s steelmaking coal operations will be temporarily shut down for approximately three weeks in the quarter. Shutdowns will be staggered over the summer months among the operations. Teck will continue to meet all contracted and committed coal sales for its entire suite of products.
