Photos and videos: Wildfires, smoke, and hope

^ Lewis Anderson took the above video at 6:49 pm September 12 of water bombers filling up at the Waterton Dam.  He's "Thankful for all the firefighters and water bombers fighting the Kenow fire round the clock!"

^ Reblooming iris in Alert area - Ianthe Goodfellow took this picture on the morning of September 12 near Christie Mines Ridge. 

"The smoke had cleared somewhat and the white iris 'Immortality' greeted us with this beautiful bloom.  We are prepared to leave but we really hope it does not come to that.  Thank you to all who are helping and our thoughts and wishes are with those who are having really difficult times. - Ianthe and Max Goodfellow

Missing Boston Terrier


Louey is a missing Boston Terrier who ran away from a kennel in the Burmis/CNP area at approximately 5:00 pm Friday, October 7. He was seen later that evening in the Leitch Collieries area.  He's very friendly but likely very frightened.  Please call 403-627-8363 if you see him or find him.  A reward is offered.

No one injured in Burmis area house fire


Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) and Crowsnest Fire and Rescue responded to a residence on fire  at approximately 9:45 am, Monday, September 5, 2016. The residence is located south of Highway 3 near Rinke Sawmill, west of the Burmis vehicle inspection station.  According to PCES Deputy Fire Chief Pat Neumann no one was injured but the home has suffered a significant amount of damage from the fire, smoke and water.  Neumann said the fire is still under investigation, however it may have been related to a wood burning stove.

Semi rollover snarls long weekend Highway 3 traffic near Burmis

Update:

Highway 3 has now been re-opened in both directions and the tractor trailer has been removed from the scene. The backlog of traffic took time to clear but is now flowing normally.

On this August long weekend, RCMP would like to remind motorists to take their time on Alberta Highways so everyone reaches their destination safely.

Original report:

Pincher Creek RCMP (15:06 pm)– RCMP are reporting a semi tractor trailer rollover collision on Highway 3, 100 metres west of Highway 507 in the Burmis area.
