Fatal MVC on Hwy 519 near Granum

RCMP Alberta - On Monday July 23rd at approximately 7:00 am, the Fort Macleod and Claresholm RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 519 near Range Road 242.  A Honda Civic travelling westbound on the secondary highway crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a GMC Sierra truck. Both the female driver and female passenger of the Honda Civic were pronounced deceased at the scene while the driver of the GMC truck was transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

RCMP in Southern Alberta terminate multi-jurisdictional pursuit with arrests

RCMP Alberta – Following a pursuit last night that started in High River and spanned four different detachment areas, the RCMP safely terminated the pursuit in Granum and arrested two adults and one youth.

Fatal collision east of Granum

RCMP Alberta - On February 8 at approximately 3:20 pm, Fort Macleod and Claresholm RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 519, just east of Granum.

A Ford Fusion travelling southbound on Range Road 264 entered onto Highway 519 and was struck broadside by a westbound semi-tractor. The 20-year-old male driver in the Ford Fusion was pronounced deceased at the scene. An 18-year-old male passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both occupants of the Ford Fusion were from Lethbridge. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst attended and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. At the time of the collision, a winter storm was taking place.

New board of trustees for Livingstone Range School Division

Livingstone Range School Division - Following the conclusion of municipal elections across the province, Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD) is pleased to announce the results of votes for the LRSD Board of Trustees.

In Ward 1, encompassing Nanton, Stavely, Claresholm and Granum, the positions were sustained by incumbents John McKee and Brad Toone.

Ward 2, representing Cowley, Lundbreck and the Crowsnest Pass, saw incumbent Clara Yagos retain her position and new candidate Greg Long filling the spot formerly held by Kristy Stevens.

In Ward 3, representing Fort Macleod and Pincher Creek, incumbent Lori Hodges retained her position, joined by new candidate Lacey Poytress and Jim Burdett, a former LRSD trustee returning to the office. Former Ward 3 trustees Martha Ratcliffe and Shannon Scherger opted not to vie for their positions in this election.

Residential structure fire in Granum

RCMP Alberta - On Saturday October 22, 2017 just after 1:00 am the Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a structure fire in the Town of Granum, Alberta. When officers arrived on scene a house was fully engulfed in flames and fire departments from Granum, Fort Macleod, Claresholm and the MD of Willow Creek were battling the fire. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.

There were no reports of injuries as a result of the fire.  At this time police and fire officials are investigating the cause.

Fatal motor MVC near Granum

Update: Following a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 519, the RCMP can advise that both lanes of travel are open. Traffic is no longer being detoured.

The collision remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.

RCMP Alberta – At 4:00 p.m. today, Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a complaint of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 519 approximately 15 km east of Granum.  A car travelling westbound on Highway 519 was attempting to pass another motor vehicle and it collided head on with an SUV travelling eastbound.  The driver of the car was determined to be deceased on scene and the driver of the SUV has been transported, via ground ambulance, with non life threatening conditions, to an area hospital.

Mischief to vehicles in Granum

RCMP Alberta - On March 2, 2017, Fort Macleod RCMP responded to three separate complaints of Mischief to vehicles in the Hamlet of Granum, Alberta. In all cases suspect(s) broke the driver side window of the vehicles and rummaged through the glove box and console areas, stealing change and other small items. It is believed these Criminal Code offences occurred sometime between midnight and 7:00 am.

Southern Alberta communities awarded over $4.8 million in federal funding, including $463,000 for Pincher Creek spray park

Davis - Western Economic Diversification Canada yesterday announced a total federal investment of $4,899,327 in grants from three different programs, the 150 Community Infrastructure Program. and Canadian Heritage’s Canada 150 Fund and Canada Cultural Spaces Fund for ten southern Alberta projects "that celebrate our communities and shared heritage" by helping those communities "modernize local recreation facilities, as well as improve social and cultural infrastructure and programs."

Among those projects, the Town of Pincher Creek was awarded a Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program grant of $463,000 to enhance the Pincher Creek Multi-Purpose Facility on Main Street with the addition of a spray park, water re-circulation system, water slide, and landscaping. According to the Town, the facility enhancement will be installed to the north of the facility. "The Town of Pincher Creek has budgeted up to one million dollars for this project including the grant, with an additional contingency for spray park donations. The Town of Pincher Creek is aiming to have the spray park ready for operation in celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday on July 1st, 2017 and the remainder to be complete by December 31, 2017."

Cyclist fatality near Granum

RCMP Alberta - On July 14, 2016 at approximately 1:00 pm, Fort Macleod RCMP and Fort Macleod Emergency Services attended a cyclist collision with a parked transport truck on Highway 2 southbound near Township Road 95A. A cyclist was travelling southbound on the shoulder of the Highway when he was passed by an unknown white van, causing the cyclist to move further onto the shoulder of the highway. A semi-truck was stopped ahead of the cyclist also on the shoulder of the highway. The cyclist ran into the back of the parked transport truck. The cyclist a 73-year old Fort Macleod resident was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased is not being released.
