Y.E.S. provides job search help to young people in Pincher Creek

Group Group Youth has been administering Youth Employment Services (YES) for 15 years in Pincher Creek.  YES is a non-profit organization aimed at helping youth from the ages 10 to 24 find summer employment.  The service is offered free to the students and to potential employers. Jobs include full-time, part-time, and odd jobs from both businesses and individuals.  Y.E.S. Coordinator Kelsi Byam is in charge of planning all the fundraisers, workshops, and registering both youth and businesses to make a good match.  "Once they're registered, we know what they are seeking, what hours they are available," she explained.   "When we receive jobs throughout the summer, based on what they're (the employer) seeking, we kind of match them up.  It can be any business, or member in the community or the surrounding area."  She said it can be something as simple as a one time job such as painting a fence or yard cleaning and grass cutting,  washing windows, or finding someone to help for a full time summer position.  "We try and match them with the best student we feel is right for the job."

Vista Village residents plant flowers with Group Group Youth

Residents at Vista Village enjoyed an evening of planting flowers with their friends from Group Group Youth on Wednesday, May 27th . Purchase of the plants/planters were made possible from a $1000.00 grant the Group Group Youth obtained from The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta. Other activities the youth plan on doing during the summer are scrapbooking, table games. and helping to maintain the plants by watering and weeding.
