Update: Traffic flow has resumed on Highway 2 southbound and is no longer being diverted.  Extreme winter driving conditions continue to affect travel on Highway 2 north and south of Calgary. Travel is still not recommended

Sundre RCMP investigate child luring

RCMP Alberta - On January 30, 2018, the RCMP Sundre detachment was contacted by one of the local schools regarding an inappropriate Snapchat message of a sexual nature that was sent to one of their students by an adult. A concerned student disclosed the photo to his parent who then reported the matter to the school.

Didsbury RCMP respond to workplace fatality at forage processor

RCMP Alberta - This morning at 8:07 a.m., Didsbury RCMP responded to a workplace accident at a hay plant located east of Cremona. EMS and Fire Services also responded to the incident. A 63-year-old male from Olds, Alberta was found deceased. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was fatally injured while operating a piece of equipment. Occupational Health and Safety investigators have taken over the follow up investigation which is not deemed to be criminal in nature. The name of the victim is not being released.

Fatal collision on Highway 2 near Didsbury

RCMP Alberta - At approximately 1:00 a.m. July 5, Didsbury RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 2 involving a mini van and a semi truck-trailer.  At the time of the collision, the semi was pulled over on the shoulder of the northbound lanes with its hazard lights activated. A Dodge caravan that was also travelling northbound struck the rear of the trailer. The driver, and lone occupant of the mini van, a 59-year old man from Red Deer was pronounced dead at the scene.

An RCMP collision re-constructionist attended the scene as part of the investigation. No charges are anticipated. Traffic was diverted fro a period of time but has since resumed normal flow.

Didsbury RCMP investigate bear attack

RCMP Alberta - On July 2, 2017, at approximately 12:55 PM, the Didsbury RCMP responded to a complaint of a bear attack in the Harold Creek area. A lone male was geo-caching in the Harold Creek area, west of Water Valley, when he encountered a bear. The bear charged the male and attempted to drag him off into the bush. The male was successful in freeing himself from the bear. The male then drove himself to a store in the Water Valley area and met up with Park Rangers. From there, the male was transported by ground ambulance to a Calgary area hospital.

The male suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The bear has not been located yet. Due to the remote location of the attack, there is no danger to the public at this time. The investigation has been taken over by local Fish and Wildlife.

An update will be provided if new information becomes available.

Child pornography charges laid against Didsbury man

RCMP Alberta - An investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and Didsbury RCMP has resulted in Child Pornography charges being laid against a Didsbury resident.

In December 2016, The National Child Exploitation Centre (NCECC) in Ottawa received information from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that an unknown person uploaded child pornography images onto a social media account. The IP address of the unknown person traced back to Alberta. The NCECC contacted ALERT’s Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (SAICE) unit who began an investigation. Through the course of the investigation, SAICE investigators identified the suspect and his residence in the town of Didsbury.
