Mischief to Fort Macleod Lions Ball Diamond

RCMP Alberta - Sometime between the hours of 8:00 pm on September 5th and 8:00 am on September 6th, 2018 unknown suspects entered the concession booth at the Lions Ball Diamond in Fort Macleod and proceeded to splash paint all over the walls and floor causing a considerable amount of damage.

Opioid Information Sessions to be held throughout southwest Alberta

Chinook Arch Regional Library System - How did we get here? This is a question on many Albertans’ minds regarding the opioid crisis. The issue is widespread its effects can be seen across southwest communities - both urban and rural.

Luckily, libraries across southwest Alberta are answering the call for factual and relevant information through upcoming Opioid Information Sessions, which will take place this fall. The sessions have been coordinated through Chinook Arch Regional Library System, thanks to a grant received from the Government of Alberta’s Opioid Response Public Awareness Grants for Communities, which is administered by the Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN).

Fatal collision on Highway 2

RCMP Alberta - At approximately 9:40 am July 14, Claresholm RCMP and Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 2 near Township Road 120. A white courier van travelling northbound on Highway 2 entered the centre median and rolled several times.

The passenger of the van, a 25-year-old man from Calgary was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver, a 21-year-old female from Calgary was also ejected from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to area hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Claresholm RCMP, with the assistance of an RCMP collision analyst are continuing to investigate to determine the cause and any factors in the collision.

Theft of flat deck trailer and skid steer at Head Smashed In and Fort Macleod

Fort Macleod RCMP - On Wednesday June 6, 2018 the Fort Macleod RCMP were made aware of two separate thefts which occurred between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The first theft occurred at Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump which is located on Hwy 785, West of Fort Macleod. A 20 foot black Oasis flat deck trailer was stolen from their parking lot after a lock was broken off the trailer hitch.

The second theft occurred near 12 Street and Hwy 2 in Fort Macleod. A yellow CAT skid-steer was stolen from a construction site. It appears to have been driven from the site and onto Hwy 2 before being loaded onto a trailer about 500 metres South of 12 St.

Horses stolen and sold for processing, charges laid

RCMP Alberta - Charges have been laid by Raymond RCMP in the investigation into two horses that were sold for processing.  On April 28, Raymond RCMP received a report of two horses that had been sold without the owner’s consent. The victim reported that she had been boarding two horses at a Stirling area farm for 5 years. On April 9, she was contacted by a relative of the farm owner who informed her that the owner had passed away and she would have to relocate the horses by the end of the month.

Forces team up for southern Alberta drug bust

ALERT - ALERT, RCMP and the Blood Tribe Police Service joined forces this week to arrest three people in Fort Macleod who were allegedly selling drugs to users throughout southern Alberta.

ALERT’s Lethbridge organized crime and gang team initiated the short-term investigation earlier this month when information was received about drug trafficking in the area, specifically on the Blood and Piikani reserves west of Lethbridge.

Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod to receive CARES funding

Projects in Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod are among the 62 new recipients of rond three of Alberta Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) program grants. The Town of Pincher Creek will receive $ $89,543 for a project called "Energizing the Future of Pincher Creek" which intends to "expand tourism opportunities related to the newly announced Castle Parks region". Fort Macleod's Community Aquaponic Greenhouse Society's "Growing For the Future" project will receive $16,300 to support phase one of the schematic design and design development of a passive greenhouse using aquaculture food production.

Wire thefts from Fort Macleod Fortis site

Fort Macleod RCMP - On February 8th, 2018 Fort Macleod RCMP received a report that last night or early this morning a Fortis wire reel containing primary underground wire was stolen from Fortis job site located at 811 Highway and 93 Township Road, just north of Fort Macleod. A large wooden reel of 750MCM wire weighing in excess of 2000 lbs was dragged across the highway and transported from scene. Wire on the reel is encased in black plastic with red stripes, the reel was over 6 feet tall and approximately 4 feet wide. This occurred overnight on the evening of February 7th, sometime between 8:00 pm and 7:00 am on February 8th.

This is the second occurrence this week of theft of wire from this job site.  The first occurrence occurred between February 1st and February 7th, 2018 where 90 metres of primary underground cable was cut and removed from installation.

Trespassing/suspicious person and vehicle near Fort Macleod

Fort Macleod RCMP - On February 11, 2018 at 0745 hours a white Chevrolet was trespassing on private property located at N 25-09-25, just east of Bouvry Exports. The property is leased by Torc Oil and Gas. A truck described as a 2011 white Chevrolet 1500 LT Crew Cab with chrome on the mirrors and rain guards/window visors was photographed driving on the property.  There are "No Trespassing" notices at this location and there have been several thefts and vandalism on this property.

Suspicious person complaint leads to recovery of stolen ATV near Granum.

RCMP Alberta - On February 3, 2018 Fort Macleod RCMP received a report of a suspicious person riding through farm fields East of Granum at 7:30 am. Members were able to locate a Mahindra side-by-side ATV, which was determined to be one of two new 2017 Mahindra ATV's stolen from Nieboer Farm Supplies in Nobleford. The theft happened overnight between February 2 and February 3, at Nieboer Farm Supplies near the roundabout intersection of highways 23 and 519. 35 year old Ryan McPherson from Calgary has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 in relation to the recovered ATV.  The second ATV is still missing, and described as a 2017 Mahindra MH 750 side-by-side. It is red and black in colour, and this particular model when stolen included a roof and doors. (stock photo above).

Generator theft near Fort Macleod

RCMP Alberta - On January 29, 2018 Fort Macleod RCMP received a report that last night or early this morning a generator was stolen from his pasture land southwest of Fort Macleod in the area of 261 Range Road and 72 Township road. A Red Honda Generator Model EU3000 ISC2 was removed from the property by cutting a chain that was securing the generator. This occurred overnight on the evening of January 28, sometime between 6:00 pm and 10:00 am on January 29, 2018.

Vandalism to window at Structural Truss in Fort Macleod

RCMP Alberta - On Saturday December 16, 2017 in the early morning, a window was smashed at a business on 12 Street in Fort Macleod. Surveillance video obtained shows a mid size, 4 door, dark coloured sedan drive up to the front of Structural Truss. Several people get out of the vehicle and the front passenger throws an object at a large glass window. Only the outer pane of glass was damaged and the subjects did not gain entry to the building. After throwing the object, the subjects immediately get back into the vehicle and drive West on 12th Street, before turning North on 3rd Avenue.

Fort Macleod United Church vandalized

RCMP Alberta - Sometime between Friday, December 8, 2017 and Sunday, December 10, 2017 three small windows at the back of the Fort Macleod United Church were vandalized. Suspects did not gain entry into the building and the incident appears to be random in nature.

Peewee Chinooks win home tournament

Home tournament champions the 2017/18 Pincher Creek Peewee Chinooks

C. Davis/T. Lucas - Pincher Creek's Peewee Chinooks hosted a hockey tournament at the Memorial Community Centre Arena December 1-3.  Participating teams included the  Chinooks, Canmore's Eagles, Crowsnest Pass Thunder, and the Chestermere Lakers.  The Chinooks took first place after Aiden Potts scored the winning goal in the championship game against the Lakers with just 1.1 seconds remaining on the clock in overtime.

RCMP Alberta - Fort Macleod RCMP are investigating a Break and Enter to GMS Mechanical & Equipment Ltd. in Fort Macleod, Alberta which occurred sometime overnight on December 3, 2017. Unknown suspect(s) smashed the side entrance door to the business gaining access to the product display wall.  Several high end Husqvarna chainsaws were stolen, valued at more than 12 thousand dollars.

This matter is still under investigation. Pincher Creek RCMP investigating theft from vehicle, stolen and recovered trailers parked at Castle Mountain

Pincher Creek RCMP -  On November 12, 2017 Pincher Creek RCMP responded to a complaint that someone had removed the diesel particulate filter catalysts system from a large truck that was parked in the industrial area of Pincher Creek.  It is suspected this unit was stolen for the recycling value of the metals contained in the system, the theft is believed to have happened the night of November 11, 2017.

Pincher Creek RCMP are also investigating the theft of two trailers that were recovered at the Castle Mountain Ski hill on November 9, 2017.

New board of trustees for Livingstone Range School Division

Livingstone Range School Division - Following the conclusion of municipal elections across the province, Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD) is pleased to announce the results of votes for the LRSD Board of Trustees.

In Ward 1, encompassing Nanton, Stavely, Claresholm and Granum, the positions were sustained by incumbents John McKee and Brad Toone.

Ward 2, representing Cowley, Lundbreck and the Crowsnest Pass, saw incumbent Clara Yagos retain her position and new candidate Greg Long filling the spot formerly held by Kristy Stevens.

In Ward 3, representing Fort Macleod and Pincher Creek, incumbent Lori Hodges retained her position, joined by new candidate Lacey Poytress and Jim Burdett, a former LRSD trustee returning to the office. Former Ward 3 trustees Martha Ratcliffe and Shannon Scherger opted not to vie for their positions in this election.

Southern Alberta RCMP wildfires summary

RCMP Alberta - In the late afternoon and evening hours on October 17, several communities across southern Alberta were impacted by severe, fast moving wildfires which were driven by extremely high winds. RCMP officers conducted evacuations of 10 communities in 6 counties/municipal districts. Rural residences and farms in these counties were also evacuated in many areas. These evacuations were carried out by officers in eight different RCMP detachments working in partnership with local firefighters, peace officers and citizens.

At this time, a full assessment of the damages resulting from these fires has not yet been completed. “The events of yesterday are unprecedented. We have never had emergencies and evacuations affecting so many communities at once.” says RCMP Chief Superintendent Tony Hamori, Officer in Charge of Southern Alberta District. “ I am proud of the efforts of our RCMP officers and employees and I thank all of our community partners for their significant role in managing these fires.”
