Overdose prevention site opens at Stand Off

Government of Alberta - The province is working with a harm-reduction agency in Lethbridge to provide lifesaving medical supervision on Kainai First Nation. The Alberta Health Services' ATCO trailer has been set up in Stand Off, Alberta to provide lifesaving medical supervision to help prevent opioid overdoses. The initiative will help the community respond to a spike in opioid overdoses.

Two men charged in relation to Blood Tribe Reserve homicide

RCMP Alberta - Following an investigation that began on February 23 into the death of a man on the Blood Indian Reserve the RCMP have charged two males with Second Degree Murder.

Arrested gang members suspected of trafficking in Lethbridge, Blood First Nation

ALERT - An alleged member of the Mad Cowz gang has been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking in Lethbridge and the Blood First Nation Reserve.  ALERT Lethbridge’s organized crime and gang team arrested Corey Amyotte on February 28, 2018, along with four other suspects. The 33-year-old man from Manitoba is an alleged member of the Mad Cowz gang and information provided by Blood Tribe Police suggested he was involved in drug trafficking in the region.

MCU South assists Blood Tribe police with homicide invesigation

RCMP Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU) - On February 23, 2018 at approximately 11:08 pm, Members of the Blood Tribe Police Service were dispatched to assist a man in Stand Off, Alberta who was reported to be in distress. The Blood Tribe Police Service attended the location with EMS and the male was transported to a local area Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The scene remains secured by police pending autopsy which has been scheduled for February 26, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Calgary Medical Examiner's Office.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU) has taken carriage of the investigation and is being assisted by the RCMP Forensic Investigation Section (FIS) and the Blood Tribe Police Service.

Missing Blood Reserve teen Neiko Morning Bird

Lethbridge Police Service - Lethbridge Police are seeking the public’s assistance to locate a missing 15-year-old boy. Neiko Morning Bird was last seen October 22 on the Blood Reserve but wasn’t reported as missing until November 17. Efforts to locate him have been unsuccessful and police are concerned for his well-being.

Morning Bird is described as an aboriginal male, approximately 5’2”, 72lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.

Suspected fentanyl dealers arrested in Fort Macleod

RCMP Alberta - A joint forces investigation involving ALERT Lethbridge, Fort Macleod RCMP, and Blood Tribe Police resulted in the arrest of two suspected fentanyl dealers. Three homes and two vehicles were searched in Fort Macleod, Alberta on May 25, 2017. The investigation targeted two drug dealers who are accused of supplying fentanyl on the Blood Tribe First Nation Reserve.

“Fentanyl has caused enough harm to our respective communities. Our agencies are committed to working together to target those individuals who continue to sell this deadly drug,” said Sgt. Laura Akitt of the Fort Macleod RCMP.

Blood Tribe Council passes trespass bylaw

Blood Tribe Council - The Blood Tribe Council has taken active steps to minimize the impacts of the fentanyl and other drug related activities on the Blood Reserve and to ensure the safety of Blood Tribe members. One of the steps has been to enact the Kainai/Blood Tribe Trespass Bylaw and Regulations to deal with the ongoing concerns with respect to persons entering on the Blood Reserve for purposes related to the unlawful use and distribution of drugs.

Vicious assault in Lethbridge, backlash for Blood Tribe members

Chris Davis - Lethbridge Police (LP) have charged Denzel Dre Colton Bird, a 20-year-old Blood Tribe man, with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and break and enter after a woman was attacked and sexually assaulted while walking to work on October 7.  According to a Lethbridge Police press release "Investigation by members of the Criminal Investigation Section has determined the accused is unknown to the victim and the crime was a random act of violence."
