Toni Lucas - 4-H Silver Reins Light Horse Club  2018 Achievement Day was held at Heritage Acres on Saturday, June 9.  The club has seven participants who started with the club in September, but many have been with the club for multiple years. Achievement day tested the abilities and personal growth of these young riders, who are broken up in age groups. Held in such a public place the children are not only judged for their abilities and comportment, they also have the opportunity of getting to show their progress to people who came to see the Heritage Acres Horse Show.

Pincher Creek Chinook 4-H Multi Club update

Chris LeBlanc - In our 4-H year so far, projects are getting fired up and ready to go. This year our projects include: market lamb, breading lamb, pheasants, roping, baking and market hog. Our club leader is Carolyn Robbins and the assistant leaders are Michael Robbins and Kellie Leblanc.

Brynn Grose - Hi my name is Brynn Grose it is my first year in the 4-H Silver Reins Light Horse Club. The other members in the club are Kelly Turnbull, Kim Turnbull, Jessie Terpstra, Johnny Terpstra, Ruby Spranza, Maren Christensen and Dakota Grineage. My horse's name is Kreedo.

2017 Heritage Acres Horse Show and Chuck Wagon Supper a huge success

Chris Davis - On June 10 Heritage Acres Farm Museum hosted its Horse Show and Chuck Wagon Supper, which combined a variety of elements into one crowd pleasing event.  The weather was warm and sunny for most of the day, and even when the temperature dipped a bit in the evening the overflow crowd for the chuck wagon supper kept each other warm.  Two local 4-H clubs, Silver Reins and Pincher Creek Multi Club, held their annual achievement events as well.  Bruce Christie's horse training demonstration was a big hit, as was various skill demonstrations by Silver Reins members.

4-H Multi Club holds 2017 Achievement Day at Heritage Acres

Toni Lucas - On Saturday, June 10 there was a lot of action out at Heritage Acres Farm museum.. Included in the festivities of the Chuckwagon Cookout were two separate 4 H groups hosting their end of the year achievement shows Pincher Creek Multi Club and Silver Reins Light Horse Club.  Multi Club includes kids with a wide variety of interests. Over the 4 H season they could take part in doing a variety of projects, including Public Speaking, Pigs, Sheep, Pheasant, Sewing, Target shooting, and Mechanics. The results of their work were displayed, demonstrated, and judged in the Zoeteman.Vogelaar barn near the entrance of the museum grounds.

2017 Timber Trails and Foothills Beef 4-H livestock show and sale

Toni Lucas - On Monday May 29, the Timber Trails and Foothills Beef 4-H Clubs hosted their 2017 beef and sheep Achievement Day at the Horseshoe Pavilion. This annual event serves as a way to highlight a year of work for both clubs.  The day began with an introduction of the two clubs, as well as the Cleaver Kids category for children aged 6-8. The Cattle Show and Lamb Show started giving all the members a chance to be in the ring showing their stock before judges who judging not only the quality of the stock raised, but the attitude of the presenters.  After the judging the kids and stock had the chance to relax and eat before the livestock sale.

Chinook 4-H Multiclub Achievement Day to be held June 10

Club Reporter Jillanna Hammond - The Chinook Multiclub, members have been really busy preparing for our Achievement Day. We have six projects this year (Mechanics, Pheasants, Shooting Sports, Photography, Sewing; Market Hog and Market Lamb) and each is finishing up and adding final touches in order to show off their projects on June 10th at Heritage Acres, just north-east of Pincher Creek on Secondary Highway 785. Chinook 4-H Multiclub update

Jillanna Hammond, Chinook 4-H Multiclub Reporter - Chinook Multiclub has been busy since December. Each project has been making a ton of progress, learning new skills, and practising old ones. Shooting Sports continues to shoot at the gun range but, changed things up a bit to incorporate archery into their project. Market Hog members received their pigs, Berkshire and Duroc cross. They also spent time learning to identify cuts of meat and judge to find the “perfect pig”. Market Lamb members received their sheep, toured a sheep feedlot operation, and reviewed cuts of meat. When choosing their lambs, they were reminded to look for a good stance, among other qualities. We have one member in the Photography Project and he is making great progress. We are looking forward to seeing his photos. Small Engines members are working hard to rebuild their projects. I’ve heard rumours of carburetor issues. Our single Sewing Project member has completed several projects including some clothes and a purse. She is quite the little seamstress.

Shell Waterton donates to Pincher Creek area 4-H clubs

Justin Schoening - A representative from Shell Waterton used to come to 4-H show and sales and buy animals. They would then donate the animal back to the club to resell. This way instead of supporting one kid they supported the whole club. A couple years ago Shell decided to distribute their support differently. So Shell gave a lump sum to our district, and they have done that, every year, since. The district placed these funds in a Shell education fund and uses the money to pay for things like workshops, (demonstrations on different aspects of 4-H, for example; judging) and most recently an exchange trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland. During our exchange all twenty of us (ten Newfoundlanders and ten members from our district) met Rod Sinclair of Shell Waterton for lunch at the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village, where he presented us a check. Our exchange would not be possible without their generosity. We really appreciate the way Shell Waterton supports 4-H, and hope they will do it for years to come.

2016 Rocky Mountain Swine and Chinook Multi Club 4-H Achievement Day

Josh Davis - On Monday June 6, 2016, Pincher Creek's Rocky Mountain Swine 4-H Club and Chinook 4-H Multiclub held their annual achievement day at the Horseshoe Pavilion. The day began with an introduction of the two clubs, with the Market Hog show taking place at 2:00 PM, and the Lamb Show starting around 4:00 PM. Supper was served at 5:30 PM, followed by the sale of 8 Market Lambs and 22 Market Hogs at 7. Bob Westrop served as master of ceremonies while the club members showed their animal projects, including market animals. This year they auctioned both swine and sheep projects.

Justin Nelson, Chinook 4-H Multi-Club - We had a District fun day on May 13th.  It was a Nerf war at Canyon School. We set up tumble pads for cover and we played free-for-all, capture the flag and team death-match in the dark with strobe lights.  On May 14th we did highway cleanup.  It was cold, wet, but fun.  Some people even found cell phones after we went to Luigis for pop and pizza while having a meeting.

Hello my name is Justin Nelson and I am the club reporter for the Chinook 4H Multi Club This is what our club has done up to date.

On November 11th we attended the Remembrance Day Ceremonies and presented a wreath.  On

December 20th some of our club members helped with wrapping presents and filling up the Christmas Food Hampers. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it felt good doing something for our community.

Silver Reins 4-H Light Horse Club is well into the 4-H season. These past few months have been very eventful for the club; we have taken part in trail, gymkhana and western pleasure lessons. We are also hoping to take part in a western dressage clinic that our five year instructor Karen Jarvie would instruct us through. Silver Reins also hosted the district communications night. This event included clubs from our district coming together to be instructed on how to better their 4-H communications night, and individually, to become better public speakers/presenters.

Pincher Creek 4-H clubs hold 2016 Multi-Species Judging Contest

On Saturday February 6, 2016, Pincher Creek District's Foothills Beef 4-H Club hosted a Multi-Species Judging Contest.  The event included the participation of over 30 members from all the clubs in the district, including Rocky Mountain Swine, Chinook Multi, Timber Trails, and Foothills. 4-H members judged species in four different categories, hay, heifers, horses, and sheep, and were graded on their judgements by volunteer leaders. Seniors, Juniors, and Intermediate level members of 4H were awarded prizes for first, second, and third place judging the species.

We kicked off our 4-H year with a re-organizational meeting on the 15th of October. We now have a new executive: President - Tom Welsch, Vice-President - Merrick Stauffer, Secretary - Taylor Wells, Treasurer - Sarah Kirby, District Representatives - Justin and Madeline Schoening, Club Reporters - Ellie Stauffer and Cadence Sinnott, Parliamentarian - Bruce Kirby, Club Historian - Cayde Clark. Other members - Erica Mackenzie, Deloy Mackenzie, Kassi Wells, Chaz Vance, Nelz Vance, and Mayz Vance.

On Friday November 6, several of the Pincher Creek area's 4-H clubs held their annual Executive Workshop at the Horseshoe Pavilion, an event at which 4-H members learned about their various executive roles. A different club hosts the event every year. This year the Chinook Multi Club hosted the event. Also participating were the Timber Trails, Foothills Beef, and Rocky Mountain Swine clubs.

Pincher Creek 4-H Multi Club Achievement Day was held on Sunday, June 7.  This club is called "Multi" because there are various projects and the kids choose what they want to be involved in from October to June.  The projects this year included:  Market hog, Shooting, Small Engine Repair, Outdoor Adventure, Canine, Poultry, and Pheasant.  The day began with a shooting demonstration, then moved to Heritage Acres where there was a demonstration of the small engine repair, and presentations from all the other projects.

2015 Pincher Creek and District 4-H Market Hog Achievement Show and Sale

The 2015 Pincher Creek and District 4-H Market Hog Achievement Show and Sale was held on Monday, June 1.  Twenty members of Rocky Mountain Swine Club and Chinook Multi Club brought their project animals to the Horseshoe Pavilion to be judged by Art Friesen in the age groups of Senior, Intermediate, and Junior.  Friesen was judging attributes in the categories of Market Hog, Showmanship, and Grooming. Michelle Spencer was MC for the event.  The kids worked throughout the entire season to deliver a healthy well formed animal, and on show day they worked to keep their animals clean, calm, and showed them to the best of their abilities.  It was great to see the co-operation between the members of both clubs as they prepared for the events of the day.

On Saturday, May 30 the Silver Reins Light Horse Club held their 22nd annual Achievement Day. This is a day when the all the club members show the skills they have developed in the past season in English or Western riding, or both.  Categories included Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Command, Trail, English Pleasure, English Equitation, and Hunter Hack.
