Parks Canada honours Annora Brown

Joyce Sasse - Annora Brown would be so proud to learn that Parks Canada honoured her by naming their Waterton Park Board Room after her – and suitably installing large, framed prints of six of her landscape paintings.

Waterton Park had a major influence on her life. According to her autobiography Sketches from Life, it was here she found courage to work through hardship, see beauty and find hope.

Newly formed Public Land Alliance questions Waterton watercraft ban

Chris Davis - A newly formed organization is asking Waterton Lakes National Park to reconsider a ban on the use of motorized and trailer-launched watercraft in the park, which was announced in March of this year due to fears of an possible invasive species infestation, with exceptions for park employees and some public agencies.  A similar ban was announced in late 2016 by Glacier National Park on the U.S. side of the border.  Public Land Alliance (PLA) is a southern Alberta based organization formed in May of this year which has the motto “keep public lands in public hands”.

Prescribed Fire planned for April 24 in Waterton Lakes National Park

Parks Canada is planning to have a prescribed fire in Waterton Lakes National Park Thursday, April 24. The first area is the Eskerine Complex, between the Bison Paddock, Lower Waterton Lakes and the Red Rock Road (see attached map). If successful in that area, fire crews may also burn a portion of the Red Rock Complex. That area is in the Blakiston Valley between Blakiston Creek and the height of land to the north, from Bellevue Hill to Red Rock Canyon.
