CBSA seizes four handguns at Chief Mountain

Calgary, Alberta Canada Border Services Agency - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is reminding United States (U.S.) travellers to educate themselves on Canadian firearm laws, following an incident at the Chief Mountain border crossing.  On July 3, CBSA officers seized four undeclared handguns from a Minnesota man who had been referred for a routine examination. All of these firearms were found in luggage stored inside a pickup truck box:
· a .45-calibre revolver;
· a .50-calibre revolver;
· a .40-calibre pistol (loaded); and,
· a .45-calibre pistol.

CBSA travel tips for Victoria Day

Canada Border Services Agency - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers to plan ahead for their Victoria Day weekend travel plans. The CBSA is expecting higher traffic volumes throughout the holiday weekend, particularly on Sunday, May 21 and Monday, May 22.  

The Coutts port of entry is open 24-7 and has the greatest capacity to process large volumes of travellers. During peak hours, all primary inspection lanes will be open and the port will be operating at maximum capacity.

Other border crossings in southern Alberta are also expected to see larger traffic volumes on the long weekend including Chief Mountain, Carway and Del Bonita.

Chief Mountain re-opens for the season, Wild Horse extending hours

Canada Border Services Agency - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is pleased to announce that the Chief Mountain port of entry is re‑opening for the season, beginning Monday, May 15, 2017. Additionally, the Wild Horse port of entry will be extending its hours for the season on May 15.

Chief Mountain to close for season, Wild Horse resuming normal hours

Canada Border Services Agency - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) advises travellers that the Chief Mountain port of entry will close for the season at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016. It will re-open for the next summer season on May 15, 2017. Chief Mountain is located along Highway 6 in Alberta.  Additionally, the Wild Horse port of entry will be resuming its regular hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on October 1, 2016. The port of Wild Horse is located 145 km (90 miles) south of Medicine Hat on Highway 41.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) advises travellers that the Chief Mountain port of entry will close for the season at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Additionally, the Wild Horse port of entry will be reducing its hours for the season on October 1, 2015.

Chief Mountain is located along Highway 6 in Alberta. The port of Wild Horse is located 145 km (90 miles) south of Medicine Hat on Highway 41.

Wild Horse hours of operation (Mountain Daylight Time):
October 1 – May 14: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
May 15 – September 30: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

$440 million federal funding announced to modernize ports of entry in Alberta

MP John Barlow, on behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today announced the Harper Government will invest an estimated $113.65 million to improve infrastructure in the Prairie Region including the Chief Mountain port of entry in Alberta. This investment is part of the $440 million in infrastructure funding announced in November 2014 by Prime Minister Harper to replace aging ports of entry across Canada.
