MD of Pincher Creek warns of potential for overland flooding

The MD of Pincher Creek has published a warning about the potential for overland flooding in the next few weeks. "A great deal of our neighboring municipalities in Southern Alberta are experiencing overland flooding within their boundaries. Due to our topography, the MD of Pincher Creek has not experienced significant overland flooding to date."

According to the release, "The weather forecasted in the next few weeks may result in a significant melt of the existing snowpack.  Residents should prepare for dealing with overland water flows that will pool in low areas and may cause dangerous situations where it is flowing. MD roads will continue to be soft and may be crossed by floodwaters where flow exceeds culvert capacity."

Alberta Government - Municipal Affairs Minister Danielle Larivee has issued the following statement to mark the third anniversary of 2013 Alberta floods:

“This Monday, June 20 marks the third anniversary of the southern Alberta floods. While three years have passed, this is a significant day that symbolizes a time that forever changed our province.

Pincher Creek and area Emergency Services responds to flooding issues

Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek, Lundbreck, Beaver Mines and Cowley Emergency Services have been busy since the evening of June 19 responding to flooding related situations.  They responded to one basement that had been flooded, and had to rescue one person that was trapped due to a washed out road.

Emergency Management Agency Representative Ralph Bourque said that areas to the west and the north of town had a higher impact from the rain, and that there will be a more complete report later today after assessments are made.
