University of Lethbridge first in Canada to recycle Styrofoam on its campus

University of Lethbridge - The University of Lethbridge is lessening its environmental footprint through the introduction of a new recycling initiative, becoming the first Canadian university to recycle Styrofoam on its own campus.  Since June 2017, Styrofoam at the U of L has been recycled through the Calgary-based StyroGo service. A special mobile recycling truck comes to campus on a regular basis, shredding and melting the Styrofoam into highly-condensed blocks of material that are then re-sold to companies that use the recycled products to make a variety of after-products, including toys and architectural molding.

Another Recycling Round Up success in Pincher Creek

Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek's 2016 Recycling Round-up was held on Saturday June 18 at the Ranchland Mall parking lot. A number of organizations participated. Pincher Planters held their annual plant swap, the Splash Park Committee held a fundraising barbecue and pancake breakfast, the Pincher Creek Lions Club collected eyeglasses, DBS Environmental collected hazardous waste like electronics, batteries and paints, and a paper shredder truck from Lethbridge Mobile Shredding was on hand for safe disposal of sensitive documents. A big draw for the day was the recycle swap.

The 2014 Pincher Creek Re-use Fair and E-Waste/Toxic Roundup was held on a beautifully sunny June 7 at the Ranchland Mall parking lot.  The event was sponsored by the Town of Pincher Creek, the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9, and Alberta Recycling.
