Alberta Whitewater Association receives grant from Alberta government

Chris Davis - On June 2 Alberta Whitewater Association (AWA) Executive Director Chuck Lee received a $11,835 Government of Alberta cheque from Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier.  The money will go towards the purchase a special events trailer.  "Every couple of weeks, the association is rolling to a new venue across the province,"  said Lee, explaining that a number of these locations are in a remote areas, often with no cooking facilities, and the trailer will help with that.  The AWA is a non-profit society that acts as Alberta's governing organization for recreational and competitive canoe and kayak paddling.

Women’s Canoe added to Olympic Canoe Kayak program, bringing gender equity.

Canoe Kayak Canada - Canoe Kayak Canada is pleased to share the news that for the first time in Tokyo 2020, Canoe Kayak Sprint and Slalom will have a gender-balanced Olympic program.  The International Olympic Committee has approved the International Canoe Federation’s proposal for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Program. This program includes women’s canoe events for the first time in Olympic history.

Ryley and Hannah Penner of Lundbreck named to World Championships Canadian Canoe Slalom teams

Canoe Kayak Canada - Canoe Kayak Canada is pleased to name its team to compete at the ICF Canoe Slalom Junior and U23 World Championships in Krakow, Poland from July 13 to 17. The selections are based on results of team trials that took place in Kananaskis, AB this past weekend. Notable performances at the trials included Liam Smedley in U23 Men’s C1, Lois Betteridge in both the U23 Women’s C1 and K1, Florence Maheu in U23 Women’s C1 and Keenan Simpson in Junior Men’s K1.
