Brayden Provost joins Fresno City College Golf Team

Submitted - Brayden Provost's golfing skills have taken him from the Pincher Creek Golf Club to Fresno California, where the Blackfoot member and recent graduate of Piikani Nation Secondary School is currently attending Fresno City College and playing on the College Golf Team.  Brayden has made the starting line up as a freshmen.  Brayden is studying Business Administration as a major and Native American Indian Studies as a minor. 

Conditions were tough on Monday February 19, 2018 as when he competed in his first ever college event at Sunnyside Country Club, with a strong 30 mile an hour wind, and cold temperatures. He shot 9 over on the front nine and double boogied 17 to come in 1 over on the back nine to finish with an 82.  He has upcoming tournaments in Lemore California, Buena Vista California, and a trip to Stanford University California on February 26, 2018.

Pincher Creek's Ethan Choi earned First Place South Zone in the Boys Individual category at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association's 2017 Golf Provincials held September 25/26 The Links (Spruce Grove) and the Stony Plain Golf Course.  Chi was in first place going into yesterday's final with a score of 70, two points ahead of his closest competitor.  Yesterday he won the tournament with a score 69, five strokes ahead of his closest competitor, for a combined score of 139, a full 8 points ahead of second place.

Town Council approves new fencing for Pincher Creek Golf Club

Chris Davis - At their February 12 meeting council for the Town of Pincher Creek unanimously approved a Community Services Department request for decision "to receive and consider a request from the Pincher Creek Golf Club to install approximately 250 meters of security chain link fencing around the perimeter of the Golf Course"  at an estimated cost of $32,500.  The Town of Pincher Creek will coordinate the capital project, with the monies to originate from the Golf Course reserve account.

Ethan Choi recently won the Alberta Bantam Golf Championship at Goose Hummock Golf Course, which is located north of Edmonton, on August 18 and 19.  "I felt pretty calm, actually, I wanted to win, and post two good scores in two days," said Choi.  "For the two days I was 75/71, that was four over, +4."  Choi was up against 32 other competitors in his category.  Next for Choi is the Turner Valley Junior Canada Tour.  "It is one of their last events of the season."

Ethan Choi is an outstanding 13 year old golfer from Pincher Creek who has been earning high standings in some very prestigious tournaments.  Ethan has already participated in the  Alberta Junior Boys Championship, CN Future Links Western Championship, and the Junior World Golf Championship this season.  His high quality performances in these tournaments qualified him to attend the Canadian Junior Golf Championships in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, to be held August 2-6.

Brayden Provost, a student at St. Michael's school, will be playing in a golf match against the USA National Jr. Golf team in San Diego next month.  Brayden currently participates in the  High Performance golf program headquartered in Lethbridge. They practice every weekend at Evergreen Golf Centre (Lethbridge) and inside at the Henderson Lake Golf Club.

Brayden and his dad Kevin participated in a two-person scramble tournament in Mesquite, Nevada over the Christmas holidays as part of a week-long practice session and placed second out of 75 other two person teams.

High School Golf 1A/2A Zones took place in Claresholm on Monday September 15. Grade 10 St. Michael's School student Brayden Provost shot an 86 to force a 4 player 18 hole playoff to be held in Claresholm on Saturday September 20 at 11:00 am. The top player out of the four will advance to the High School Provincial Golf Championships in Cochrane.

 Toni Lucas - Two young men from the Pincher Creek area did very well at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tournament held at the Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in Lethbridge on May 3 and 4. The competition was stiff, with 115 contenders from western Canada competing in four categories. Brayden Provost scored 169 for 7th place, and 12 year old Ethan Choi earned the Championship with a score of 149. Both Choi and Provost competed in Bantam Boys.

RCMP press release

The Pincher Creek RCMP are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the persons responsible for damaging several greens at the Pincher Creek golf course.

Sometime on the evening of Friday April 25th, persons unknown drove a vehicle onto several greens and carved chunks out of the grass.  On one green a profane word was carved into the grass.  Several hazard and distance markers were also pulled out and thrown about the course.
