Pincher Creek Recreation Advisory Board recommends new swimming fees, revisits curling rink concerns

Jonathan Skrimshire - The Pincher Creek Recreation Advisory Board reached agreement on a new swimming pool fee structure for 2018 and engaged in further discussion of the proposed siting for a new curling rink at their meeting of Wednesday, December 6. The Board, consisting of Councillor Mark Barber and six members of the community, appeared in accord on the final recommendation regarding swimming pool admission fees. The issue of the proposed curling rink site, and the question of public input into the project, however, proved contentious and revealed frustrations within the group.

Olympic medalist Brent Hayden inspires local swimmers

Chris Davis with Kim Jorgenson - World Champion and Olympic Bronze medalist for Canada Brent Hayden and his wife Nadina Zarifeh were at the Pincher Creek Pool and in a classroom setting March 24-26 to teach and inspire local youth swimmers. 23 kids participated in their half-day lessons on the Friday, and 17 attended their weekend-long boot camp. "I'm just giving back everything I learned from my years being an international swimmer representing Canada to help the new generation," said Hayden after Saturday's pool session. "I'm blessed to be in this position."

Aquatic Coordinator Sarah Landry awarded a Certificate of Thanks

Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek Aquatic Coordinator Sarah Landry was awarded a Royal Lifesaving Society Certificate of Thanks at the regular meeting of Pincher Creek Town Council on Monday March 13 by Mayor Don Anderberg and Director of Community Services Diane Burt-Stuckey.  Landry is an aquatic instructor who has taught Royal Lifesaving courses for over 10 years.  Burt-Stuckey said "We are very pleased to have Sarah on staff."  The Royal Life Saving Society Canada operates throughout Canada and all other Commonwealth  countries to prevent drowning and water-related injury through its training programs through public education, drowning prevention research, safety management and lifesaving sport in the Commonwealth.

Pincher Creek lifeguard Ryan Plante joins Team Canada for international competitions

Christian Davis - Pincher Creek lifeguard and award winning swimmer Ryan Plante will be joining Team Canada this fall for the Lifesaving World Championships at the German Cup in Warendorf, Germany and at the Orange Cup in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
