Watch out for school buses or face hefty fines
Toni Lucas - Pincher Creek First Student busing wants to remind the public that school season is about to begin starting September 1. This means young people walking in town and in the country, going to school, and school bus stops. First Student faced a dilemma in the spring when they realized an alarming number of drivers were passing buses that were in the process of picking up or dropping off children. To raise awareness First student started a 'Reds Flashing = No Passing' campaign. Now they are upping the ante: 'Don't fly past school buses with flashing red lights... because our eagle eyes are on the lookout.' What that means is RCMP Auxiliary Constable Mel Massini will be randomly riding along in school buses to observe and take down license plate numbers. He stated he is willing and ready to appear in court to testify against those who just don't get it.

Embracing failure
Joyce Sasse
But apparently this is not the norm for most Icelanders, according to Eric Weiner in “The Geography of Bliss”. Not only are the people of Iceland aren’t anxious about failure, they admire it as a reminder they aren’t afraid to try something. A rejected manuscript is better than no manuscript submitted. Young people developing a garage band are free to develop their skills without expecting early success. This attitude leads to a country full of very creative people.

Entrepreneurship is alive and well in Pincher Creek. Hannah is one of Pincher Creek's newest citizens, having recently moved here from England, and is a future grade 3 student at St. Michael's. She will be operating her Kool-Aid stand a block east of the agricultural grounds east entrance on Main Street intermittently throughout the Parade and Rodeo. Stop by and say hi and enjoy a cool refreshing drink.
Solutions and substitutions by Reena
Reena Nerbas
Dear Reena,
We had a house built in the late 60's, early 70's. It has built-in fluorescent lights and one went out. I couldn't get the bulb out, so I called an electrician. The electrician said that we needed a new ballast and then did the work. However, while working he had gloves on and spilt some black goop onto our carpet. He warned us not to touch it with our hands, and then he left. I called carpet cleaners who won't touch it and don't know what it is. I have called electricians who don't know. We have three drops the size of the lid of a jelly jar on the floor. Any ideas? Thank you so much. Ingrid
