Cochrane RCMP arrest armed and dangerous male

RCMP Alberta – On Aug. 14 the Cochrane RCMP received information from the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service advising of a dangerous disturbance they were investigating. The suspect male involved was believed to be travelling to the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 15, Cochrane RCMP members were dispatched to Stoney Nakoda First Nation for a disturbance involving the suspect in the earlier incident on the Tsuut’ina Nation.

The complaint received by the Cochrane RCMP was of a male who appeared highly intoxicated. He was carrying a sword and claiming to have guns and other weapons with him. The armed male began slashing the complainant’s vehicle tires and threatening to shoot the police if they attended. He fled into the woods near the residence with a second male.

The Cochrane RCMP with the assistance of the Police Dog Service (PDS) and the K-Division Emergency Response Team South responded to locate the two males.

One male came out of the woods once containment was established and was taken into custody voluntarily, however the initial suspect remained hidden. He eventually exited but failed to comply with police directions. The police service dog was deployed and PDS was able to apprehend the suspect. The suspect was treated for minor injuries and remains in custody.

The second male suspect was released from custody.

As a result of the incident on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, 33-year-old Scott Nelson Bigcrow of Tsuut’ina Nation faces the following nine criminal code charges:

Uttering Threats

Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous purpose

Mischief under $5,000

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

Fail to comply with an undertaking (x 2)

Fail to comply with a probation order (x3)

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Tsuut’ina Nation court on August 19, 2016.
