Area Ukrainian Dance Club is hosting its annual Fundraising Dinner and Dance on January 18, 2014

Everyone has heard of Ukrainian Christmas but what about Ukrainian New Year? Come out and celebrate Malanka with the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Club in Lethbridge Alberta, on January 18, 2014.


Guests will be treated to special dance performance featuring the dances and brightly coloured costumes from various regions of Ukraine. You will also get to enjoy the “Troyanda” debut of several new dances choreographed by Troyanda’s Artistic Director Dean Mackedenski. “Russian Dervish”, “Forever Volyn” and “Gypsy Fire” were specially choreographed for collaboration with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra.

Paige (from Pincher Creek) is on the left and Alli (from Lethbridge) on the right .  Pige and her family drives in every Sunday to practise.  Paige's age group - the Juniors - practice every Sunday from 1:15 - 3:00 at the VanDance Studio in Lethbridge. There are 16 children in this age group.

A complete Ukrainian family style dinner (perogies, Ukrainian sausage, cabbage rolls, etc) will follow. The evening will be topped off with a dance with live music provided by Calgary’s favourite Ukrainian Band, Absolute. The most memorable part of the night, however, is usually the ever popular Kolomeyka.

Now celebrating their 19th year, the Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Club is a not-for-profit organization with members that volunteer their time to preserving and promoting the artful heritage of Ukrainian dance in southern Alberta. Currently under the instruction of Dean Mackedenski and Anastasia Sereda, the Troyanda Ukrainian Dancers have over 40 members ranging in age from 3 to timeless. There is no limit to those wanting to begin, continue, or renew a love of Ukrainian dance.
