Well sports fans, the Pee Wee Mustangs travelled to Cochrane to face the Rage. The beginning of the game was all the Rage as it did not appear that the Mustangs' minds travelled with their bodies. Not sure if it is the mountain air, the higher elevation or the beautiful scenery - oh wait, can't be that as we have all of that right here at home. Well, Coach Tom is at a loss as to why it takes half the game for the team to start to play. As the Refs too did not show up for the game, Coach Tom was pressed into reffing the first half vs coaching the lost lambs. The trip to Cochrane is the only game the Peewee Mustangs have the full kicking game, so that added to some confusion.

There was not much for highlights in the first half of the game as the score was 35 - 0 before the Mustangs seemed to start to play. The offence started rolling with Jarret Jet Plante making a nice run to the right. Cutter Lance Paleo made some nice gains up the middle often carrying 2 or 3 Rage on his back. Gunner Trent Metcalfe gave way to Richie The Hammer Lagrandeur at QB after it was discovered he had eaten buttered popcorn before the game. Fumbles stalled many early drives as the Mustangs seemed to be mesmerized by the rolling ball while the Rage dived fearlessly on it. The Hammer was able to orchestrate a nice running game but the passing game did not seem to get on track with constant pressure in Lagrandeur's face, back, arms, legs, hahaha - you get the picture I hope. Ty The Real Deal Anderson showed blazing speed mixed with bullish determination running up the gut and breaking a nice run to the outside. Bullet Brody Walter took some reps at quarterback and showed some nice improvement moving the ball up the field. I would have to say in the end for offence Richie the Hammer Lagrandeur was the star having to learn how to call plays, execute the plays and improvise when the plays occasionally got broken.
Defence was hit and miss all game. The Mustangs would make some stellar plays only to see a small breakdown go all the way for a touchdown. It was a little disheartening for Coach Tom to watch the 2 or 3 players that did not try their hardest, how their lack of effort hurt the whole team. That is what makes football such a great game, if all 12 players try their hardest and do their best, often you have success. Without all 12 there is often dismal results. The D-line was doing a great job of putting pressure on the Rage backs, making the backfield their home. Ty The Real Deal Anderson and Nelz Nailer Vance made the QB's acquaintance on a regular basis.
A play that stuck out in my mind was Gus The Meat Halibert carrying the lineman who was holding on for dear life (yes that is a penalty), but Gus marched on sacking the QB with the lineman still holding on. I do not think if Gus wants - anyone can stop him. Mathew the giant Bruder, Caleb catman Jones and Isaac Spiderman Webb made nice tackles though out the game. Evan Hitman Malhi and Curtis Ironman Giesbrcht made some real nice reads at safety. Hands Grace Kirkness made some real nice reads making tackles for losses. Tenacious Tegan Teneycke, Quinn The Silencer Parker Whitlow and Justin The Equalizer Nelson all are showing real nice improvement to their game, this being their first year. Lastly is the guy in his first year that does anything I ask, Tysen The Man Teneycke did all the kicking for the team showing pure calm with rage racing towards him, sending towering punts down the field. Tysen is an outstanding young man that has immense physical ability. At Peewee level Tysen is restricted as to what he can play and do on the field, what is not restricted is his heart and sense of sportsmanship.
So sports fans, the score of 56 - 0 says it was a one sided affair, but that is not the true story. I believe many of the Mustang players were more talented than the Rage. The difference was a dropped ball here, a stop and watch because the other player is going to make the play there. All things I know a determined group of Mustang heroes can and will correct. Next week we will see the return of 12 players committed to working together to reach a common goal.
A side note to the game: Jarret Jet damaged a wing and will be missing in action for the next few weeks. We wish Jarret a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing who will step up to fill those large shoes.
Until next week this is Coach Tom reminding everyone everyday is a great day for football.

As a PeeWee mom I am proud of our kids for this being their first ever real game! All of these kids showed a lot of heart and determination and most of all sportsmanship! The team picture was taken right after the game notice all the big smiles! And I also would like to add that there was at least one Bantam player on the opposing team, which means f you have to cheat to win then I would much rather take a loss! Our kids did awesome and we have a month until we get to show the Rage what we are really made of!
