The Pincher Creek Bantam Mustangs hosted the Coyotes from Lethbridge on Saturday, September 28. This was a good game of excitement and disappointment for both teams. The Mustangs had an early lead of 13 points and the Coyotes worked hard to narrow that gap, ending the game at 13 - 12 for the Mustangs.
Bantam player #38 Hayden Varley started the game by piping his team onto the field as a show of support. Currently off due to a knee injury from a previous game, Varley is planning on being back on the field next game.

Injuries and small roster once again affected the game for the Mustangs. #55 Austin Bruder was injured halfway through the game, once again affecting the Mustangs game plans. "Overall, the guys that came in second string did great," said Coach Travis Liscombe. "We still have to work on some of our defensive back coverage techniques, but other than that, the main thing is mental focus, staying in the game, and watching the ball."

A heartbreaking moment in the game for the Coyotes was an illegal formation call in the fourth quarter gave the Mustangs breathing room. That went both ways in the breakdown of the game. "I believe in the second quarter we were driving pretty darn good," said Liscombe about that call. "We made a heck of a defensive stop, and they were ready to punt the ball and one of our boys went in and roughed the kicker. They got the ball back on that."

"On the last drive, those kids had to get those first downs," said Liscombe. "If they didn't the momentum was going against us and it could have ended way different than it did. There were some real mental mistakes on our part in this game, and focus that we need to work on. If the boys stay sharper, and if they do, you're going to see one heck of a team."

"When we called them in that final huddle there we told them all we need to do here is get a first down. You guys go as hard as you can, and go as deep as you can, and do your job like you've been trained to do, and you guys will be successful. They did.
Coyotes #7 Brennan, a receiver, is a small player, but he did really well in the game. About his quarterback Coyotes Coach Workman said "Myndio has a good arm, reads the field really well." Workman is proud of the work that the kids on his team have been doing.

Mustangs #63 Thane Buckingham made the first touchdown of the game and #41 Tyler Riviere scored the other 7 points for the team. Hoorah on that performance, Tyler!

"They broke down as a team last week, and this week they came together as a team, and squeaked it out. This was a win for each and every one of those kids today," said Coach Liscombe.

Sometimes Austin, you have to sit one out.
