MD of Pincher Creek to receive $171,623 from renewed federal Gas Tax Fund

In a letter from then Minister for Alberta Municipal Affairs Greg Weadick* dated September 4, 2014 MD of Pincher Creek Reeve Brian Hammond was informed that the MD's 2014 federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) allocation is $171,623,  based on the MD's 2013 population,.subject to the municipaiity entering into a funding agreement with the Government of Alberta.  "Funding agreements will be forwarded to municipalities for signing shortly," according to the letter, which also states that a total of  "$208 million in GTF funding will be provided to Alberta's municipalities in 2014".

"The renewed GTF provides long-term funding for Canadian municipalities to help build and revitalize local public infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity. Additional flexibility to address specific local infrastructure priorities is provided by expanding the range of eligible GTF project categories, which now include recreational and cultural infrastructure, broadband connectivity, disaster mitigation infrastructure, and brownfield redevelopment, in addition to the previous categories." - Minister for Alberta Municipal Affairs Greg Weadick*

*Note: Greg Weadick was Minister for Alberta Municipal Affairs until September 15, 2014, when new Premier Jim Prentice shuffled the cabinet, removing Weadick from the position.  The current Municipal Affairs minister is Diana McQueen
