On Saturday, July 5, Pincher Creek's Sariah Brasnett competed in the 2014 Bikini, Figure, Fitness, and Physique Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. In this national bodybuilding competition, she was entered in Figure, and ended up placing tenth out of sixteen in her height class. Brasnett's other recent competitions have included a regional show called the 2014 Southern Alberta Bodybuilding Championships that was in Red Deer the first weekend in June; she placed fifth, therefore qualifying for Provincials in Edmonton. One week later, at the 2014 Alberta Provincial Bodybuilding Championships, Brasnett landed fourth, a result that qualified her for the Canadian Bodybuilding Federation Nationals (CBFN), which was held last weekend.

Brasnett is the owner of Monster Fitness in Pincher Creek.  She has been competing since her first show back in October 2011. At the time, it was her coach who got her interested; "He suggested I do a show just because of the shape I was in and that's where it went from there," Brasnett explained. When asked what she loves most about these competitions, Brasnett specified that it was about personal accomplishment for her. "I'm always competing against myself - I just try to be better than I was the last year, or the last show. A lot of it has to do with size of muscles, so just to see your body transform and to create a better physique for the next show drives me to keep going, to see continuing changes."

Of the CBBF Nationals Brasnett said she was "Excited for the whole experience."

Sariah Brasnett is, according to her sister Sammy, an inspiration. Sammy is also a bodybuilder - she just did her first show in May. "[Sariah] inspires everybody to do it and get fit; you see everybody writing on her facebook, telling her how much of an inspiration she is. She has friends who are always in the gym with her, working hard." Brasnett mentioned that she will most likely be competing in Provincials the spring of next year but for now it is time for a break. After all, along with being a competitive bodybuilder, she is a paramedic, firefighter, business owner and a mom. Her gym, Monster Fitness, sees a lot of people coming through the door. Brasnett is one of a few trainers there who personally works with clients; "I think I motivate a fair few people just to do better - to continue with what they're doing and to reach their own goals."
