At approximately 3:30 pm today, July 10, 2014,  Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES)  and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources Development (ESRD)  responded to a fire east of Burmis and south of Highway 3 adjacent to the Canadian Pacific Railway line that runs through the area. With the aid of ESRD personnel and helicopters PCES responders from Pincher Creek, Lundbreck, and Beaver Mines doused the blaze, using Engine 14, Engine 31, and a tender.

According to an eyewitness account there was a CP rail crew working in the area prior to the fire, but the cause of the fire is as yet undetermined.  The fire spread to cover approximately an acre of land alongside the tracks, igniting grass and piles of discarded creosote-soaked railway ties, but a quick response and relatively green grass in the area prevented it from spreading, according to PCES Chief Dave Cox.
