Stony Plain duo faces drugs and weapon charges

RCMP in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain were on the hunt to locate a suspect from a dangerous assault when they encountered a significant drug trafficking operation.

On June 23rd, a man was assaulted with a "stun gun" outside his Spruce Grove residence. It occurred about 11:00 am, and the assailants were not known to him. Since that time, police have been working to identify and arrest those responsible.

A warrant was issued for assault with a weapon (stun gun) and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose for 24 year old Braden Eric Foster of Spruce Grove in relation to this incident.

Upon entering a Spruce Grove home on July 4th to arrest Braden Foster, a quantity of drugs was observed. A subsequent warrant was obtained for this, and Braden Foster and 40 year old Julie Rae Titus of Spruce Grove are facing the following charges:
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking, Schedule II- cannabis resin (hashish), approximately 200 grams
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking, Schedule II- cannabis marihuana, approximately 150 grams
  • possession of a controlled substance, Schedule I- cocaine, approximately 5 grams
  • possession of a controlled substance, Schedule I- methamphetamine, approximately 1.5 grams
  • possession of a controlled substance,Schedule I- Oxycodone, approximately 80 grams (7 pills)
  • possession of property obtained by crime, under $5000 (Canadian currency)
  • possession of a prohibited weapon (stun gun made to look like a cell phone)
Julie Titus was released from custody, to appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on September 17th, 2014.

Braden Foster was remanded into custody, and will make his first court appearance on September 17th, 2014. "The fact that Braden Foster is alleged to have committed a serious assault with a stun gun on a stranger, and then was found to be in possession of that stun gun, as well as drugs and paraphernalia supporting the drug trade, only reinforces that strong relationship between drugs and violence in our communities", states Staff Sergeant Bill Eubank. "We are pleased to have recovered the stun gun, and also dismantled the drug operation. The RCMP's overriding goal is to ensure safe homes and safe communities for Canadians. We believe that drug use and the criminality that surrounds it harms individuals and communities".

Since May 1st of this year, members of the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP Drug Section have completed 7 drug trafficking investigations resulting in 22 charges of Possession of Controlled Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking against 13 different individuals.

It's midnight- do you know where your children are?

An open letter to the citizens of Spruce Grove and Stony Plain"

RCMP in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain are concerned with a small percentage of youth wreaking havoc on our communities during the last two weeks.

Since school let out, police have responded to well over 30 incidents of vandalism and property damage. These include: mailboxes tipped over, playgrounds wrecked, fires deliberately set, and spray painting. These types of instances not only ruin our community, they also tie up police resources that could be better utilized dealing with actual emergency situations.
Police are actively investigating, and have arrested several youth in relation to the fires and mailbox damages.

The vast majority of these incidents are occurring in the early morning hours, leaving many to wonder why these young people are roaming our streets throughout the night. While summer holidays means more freedom and a break from the routine associated with school, this should translate to evening Slurpee runs and dips in the pool to cool off, not committing criminal acts on public or private property.
The community plays a pivotal role in crime prevention; in this instance, specifically by ensuring that youth are supervised and held accountable for their whereabouts and behaviors. This may include calling their children's friends' parents, to ensure that they are where they promised to be. Having once been young ourselves, and being parents, we realize that sometimes, just sometimes, kids may not be entirely truthful with their parents. The onus is on parents to monitor their activities, not police.

"RCMP believe that long-term prevention of youth crime can only be accomplished in partnership with the community. We work closely with local organizations and community services to ensure that young people who come into contact with the police, as either offenders or victims, receive the help they need to overcome challenges in their lives", states the Officer in Charge, Inspector Gary Graham.

Police realize out of the thousands of youth in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain, there is a literal handful committing these criminal acts. Let's work together to be a village and raise these children in a safe and productive community.
