4-H Spotlight on Tom Welsch

Tom Welsch and his Grand Champion Steer
Thomas Welsch is in his sixth year as a member of the Foothills 4-H Beef Club.  He's a 15 year old St. Michael's student.

Tom did remarkably well  at the recent 2014 Pincher Creek and District 4-H Livestock Show and Sale.  He had the Grand Champion Steer (a magnificent Black Angus) and also entered his Black Angus herd, consisting of a yearling heifer, a 2 year old cow and her calf, and a 3 year old cow and her calf.

He was the only one to bring a herd to the event, and fellow 4-H  members helped him display it.  A well earned Breeders Herd award followed.  He also won first place for Three year old with Calf and Foothills Intermediate Quality, and placed third for Two Year Old With Calf.

At last year's event he earned Reserve Champion Yearling Heifer,  Champion 2 Year Old, Champion 3 Year Old, Supreme Champion Female, Breeders Herd, and he was Champion Showman.

In addition to 4-H Tom enjoys hunting, trap shooting, and riding horses.
