Traffic calming in Pincher Creek

Lloyd Lybbert, Pincher Creek Voice

This looks familiar.

Have you ever seen this and wondered what it was?

Well, I did so I asked Gordon Pitt, a By-law Enforcement officer, here in Pincher Creek what it was. He told me that it was called a Speed Sentry.  The Speed Sentry is used as a traffic calming measure, to slow traffic down and reminding drivers how fast they are going.

He also told me about the reason for its placement. The Speed Sentry is located in places where there is a lot of traffic, near places were excessive speed is a problem and town entrances. Common locations are Main Street, Kettles street, School zones and transition points from high way speeds to town speeds.

But we didn't always have one in Pincher Creek, a few years ago Gord borrowed one from another municipality to see if it would help the traffic in Pincher Creek. After trying it a few times and seeing how effective it was Gordon brought forward the idea of buying one for Pincher Creek to town council. Council authorized one for Pincher Creek.

"Hear" in Pincher Creek. To "Here".

I believe the word is "Sentry", not "century"

    1. Thank you, correction made. Blame the Editor who assumed it was a brand name.
