On August 1, 2013 at 8:10 pm Crowsnest Pass RCMP were dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle collision approximately 5 km east of Crowsnest Pass on Highway 3. Crowsnest Pass Fire and Emergency services also attended the scene, along with Lethbridge RCMP Traffic Services and Pincher Creek RCMP.
As a result of further investigation, it is believed that a 2001 Dodge Dakota, driven by a lone male occupant, age 58 from Crowsnest Pass area, was eastbound and slowed to turn left into a private ranch. A 1996 Toyota Camray, operated by a 28 year woman, with 3 smaller children as passengers, was following the Dodge and struck the rear of truck, sending it across the westbound lane into the path of a loaded Semi-Tractor operated by a 60 year old from Idaho, USA. The Semi-tractor struck the Dodge, and then both came to rest in the north ditch of Highway 3.
Emergency Services assisted and transported 4 subjects to the Crowsnest Hospital with unknown injuries from the Toyota, the 58 year driver of the Dodge was pronounced deceased at the scene, the 60 year Semi-tractor driver was not injured.
Alcohol is not factor in Motor vehicle collision, weather and highway conditions were light rain and wet highway, not believed to be a factor in cause of the collision.
Highway 3 was closed for approximately 2 hours.
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time, Crowsnest Pass RCMP are continuing the investigation with assistance of the Lethbridge Traffic services.
