Nominations are now open for the Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Awards, which recognize Albertans who create communities that are inclusive of people with disabilities.
Nomination packages are available on the Council’s website at this link (click here) or by calling 1-800-272-8841.
There are six awards: the Gary McPherson Leadership Award, the Marlin Styner Achievement Award, and four Awards of Excellence in the areas of education, employment, community and public awareness.
The Gary McPherson Leadership Award is presented to an exceptional individual who has helped enrich the lives of people with disabilities. The Marlin Styner Achievement Award will be presented to an individual living with a disability who has demonstrated outstanding achievement. The Awards of Excellence recognize individuals, teams or organizations that have shown a commitment to the full inclusion of persons with disabilities as demonstrated by their actions in one of the four award areas. Since 2003, when the awards began, there have been 50 award recipients.
Anyone can nominate an Albertan for these awards. Nominations for all awards are open until September 30. Award recipients will be formally recognized in their communities, often at events coinciding with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
