Fatal Train collision with a pedestrian in Brooks



On July 17, 2013 at approximately 12:50 am, members of the Brooks RCMP along with Brooks Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a train in Brooks. Upon attending it was discovered that a 20 year old male attempted to cross the train tracks at a marked pedestrian crossing, when he was struck by an eastbound train. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased is from Brooks was walking with a male friend also from Brooks when he tried to beat the train. It appears that all of the train's safety equipment, such as horn, bells and lights were working at the time. Brooks Detachment will work with Canadian Pacific Police and Canadian Pacific Railway to complete this investigation.

The investigation is continuing. The deceased has been transferred to the Medical Examiners office in Calgary. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.
