2013 Southwest Barrel Series update

Two Southwest Barrel Racing Series events were held in June, on one June 12 in Hillspring and the other on June 26 in Pincher Creek.  The fifth 2013 event was held in Hillspring on July 10.

The series is 3D, which means winners are sorted by the top 1/3, middle 1/3, and bottom 1/3 of that day's runs.  Approximately 25-30 participants show up at each event.

Jocelyn Olsen has been having a great season, taking first place in the 1D in both of the above mentioned Hillspring events.  She placed third in the 2D in Hillspring on July 10.  She was second in the 3D category in Pincher Creek.  Jody Doenz is always a rider to watch, and she placed first in Pincher Creek. Raelynn Rutledge has been showing well, placing third in the 1D in Pincher Creek and establishing herself as the time to beat in Hillspring on July 10 with a textbook run.  She ended up second in the 1D after being narrowly edged out of first by Jocelyn Olsen.

Behind the scenes, Rose Lang keeps things humming at the microphone, Maxine McKenna does a little bit of everything, Kevin Lang is in charge of the raking, and the ground crew frequently includes Marlon Draper, Jared McCollistery, Paull Umpleby, and Aaron Gibb.

Southwest Barrel Series 2013 #5 will be held in Pincher Creek on Wednesday evening, July 24 at the Pincher Creek Rodeo Grounds, jackpot runs starting at 7:00 pm.
