Pincher Planters beautify Main Street

Pincher Planters and other volunteers were hard at work on Main Street Pincher Creek and the Bev McLachlin and Hewetson Avenue bridges this morning installing 47 hanging flower baskets.

Michael Whittington volunteered to man the tractor lift with Leroy Goodreau behind the wheel.  The lift was provided by the Pincher Creek and District Agricultural Society, as was the safety harness.   The ground crew laid out baskets at the light poles, and Whittington placed and wired them into their receptacles.

According to Pincher Planter Noreen Robbins the plan originally was to install the baskets last weekend, but the weather was uncooperative at that time. She said it used to take about 3 hours when it was done with ladders, but took only about an hour and a half with the tractor lift.

The baskets were purchased from Perfect Posies, who also helped deliver them via trailer to their destinations.  Funding for the project was provided by the Joint Council of  the Town of Pincher Creek and the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9.

About the Pincher Planters

The Pincher Planters are a group of volunteers who have been planting and maintaining approximately 30 flower beds on public land in the Town of Pincher Creek for the last 17 years. They started with 7 ladies who wanted our town to look better and one flower bed.  This year they have more flower beds to look after and more names on their volunteer list,  but there are still 5 to 8 people who regularly show up each week to weed and plant.  They work about 2 nights a week and usually meet about once a week throughout the summer.
