Are we truly thankful for what we constantly give?

Rob Bernshaw

Rob Bernshaw, Columnist

Well, fellow Albertans, how sweet it is to know that this government is constantly standing up for accountability and responsibility with the stewardship of our hard earned tax dollars.

In this column there are some questions to ponder and contemplate as we go about our daily lives putting bread on our tables and roofs over our heads.
These questions can only be answered on an individual basis as we go about putting clothes on our backs and providing for our families during our journey along the path called life.
As winter approaches and the cost continues to rise, how thankful are we for the rising electrical rates coming out of our pockets for the possible massive overbuild of transmission lines across the beautiful Alberta landscape?

Are we truly thankful for the way the MLA's on this committee voted in order to live up to their commitment?

Do thanks need to go out to our current government in order to show appreciation of the feeling that it is their God given right(due to a majority mandate) to continue taking from our pockets to line theirs?
Does thanks need to go out towards the customer service attitude that is being shown to us taxpayers with the bottomless pocket service, similar to many restaurants that give the same type of bottomless cup soda pop service to their valued customers?

Are we saying a prayer for this current government in order to express our appreciation that we are able to continually give of our precious tax dollars in order to appease their insatiable thirst for more?

Are we truly thankful for the excellent customer service that we provide this current Alberta government with our constant giving of our tax dollars in providing the customer service that this current majority government feels entitled to?  As the current government employer are we taxpayers truly thankful that we have such a dedicated employee that is always accepting and thankful towards the continual giving provided by our precious tax dollars?

Are we as Alberta tax payers giving this valued service because we want to and it is in our best interest to do so or because we feel we have no choice in the matter?
Are we thankful that we are continually giving of our blood sweat and tears to a customer that feels they are always right?

With this customer ideology and attitude that the customer is always right and therefore needs to be treated accordingly, are we truly thankful for this customer that continues to take because they feel it is their right to do so?

How truly thankful are we of how the customer service we continually provide is being treated and handled by this current Alberta government?
To show our thankfulness would it be a nice gesture if all Albertans were to write letters to their MLA's and representatives of this current government to express their heartfelt thanks on how our customer service is being given and accepted with their open arms and bottomless pockets?

As we provide the money for this current government along their path of living the life of Riley, are we thankful that the tax payer bank is able to provide continual pleasure and enjoyment so they do not have to worry about money as a lot of Albertans currently do?

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" is a commonly quoted part of a dialogue in William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, in which Juliet argues that the names of things do not matter, only what things are.

P.S.
How thankful would we as the employer be if our current dedicated employee would reverse their role and provide the same customer service to us taxpayers, that we currently provide?
Would our gratefulness be overwhelming in the face of the possibility for this current government being there for us, instead of us always being there for them?

A wish for all Albertans is that you have a great day in being thankful for what we give and what we receive along our individual journeys and experiences, as we travel towards the future of a brighter day for all concerned.

  1. P.P.S. Another thought to think about as we go about our daily lives. How thankful do we need to become before we get tired of the entitlement attitude of this current government? When will Albertans finally stand together as united taxpayers to say enough is enough and in a loud unified voice fire this current entitled employee. The opportunity had presented itself in April 2012 and now there is 3 and a half more years of this current government until the opportunity presents itself again. Will the taxpayers of Alberta stand together at that time and say thank you for the memories and vote a new party into the government position as representatives of all the people of Alberta or vote for the same old same old?
