Canmore RCMP wish to remind Motorists travelling through the Bow Valley and area roadways to exercise caution as the Animals begin to move about. With spring approaching, Motorists will find more Animals, such as Elk, Moose, Deer and Wolves, moving through the Valley.
- It is important to use caution such as:
- Obey speed limits;
- Drive according to road and lighting conditions;
- Where there is one animal there may be more;
- Slow down when approaching herds of animals. They move quickly and without warning can enter Highways and Roadways;
- Distracted driving slows reaction time;
- Stopping to take photographs of Animals on the roadway is dangerous.
RCMP respond to a large number of Motor Vehicle Collisions every year involving the local Wildlife. Many animals are killed or injured, resulting in their euthanization. Striking a large animal, such as a Moose, can result in significant property damage, injury and human fatalities. By sharing the road and using extra caution, the result will be beneficial to both our Wildlife and travellers.
