Grass fire doused at Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony

Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice

Pincher Creek Emergency Services responded to a grass fire north of the hog barn at the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony yesterday, April 1 just before 2 pm.  According to Fire Chief Dave Cox the origin of the fire was uncertain.  He said about 10 acres of uncured/ungrazed grass was burnt in the incident.  Emergency Services arrived on-scene with two engines and a tender to find the Colony fire service had already mostly dealt with the situation.

Cox said that the ground was still wet from recent rains, so the bottom layer of the grass was not as affected. "It just goes to show how volatile fire is, and how quickly it can spread," he said.
