As you no doubt have noticed if you are a regular Voice reader, we've changed some things on the site. Here's a rundown of the more significant additions and changes:
Update: The small boxes below our category tabs (which are under the masthead) represent the most recently published stories. If you hover your mouse icon over one of them you will notice the headline pops up. A nice navigational tool, we think.
Print a story
In response to numerous requests, if you wish to print an article from the Pincher Creek Voice, you can now do so more conveniently by clicking on the little print icon that now appears at the bottom of every story. Clicking on the icon will open a new window which will offer you several options, including text size, transforming the selected story into a pdf, emailing it, or stripping it of images and just printing the text.
"You Might Also Like" removed
The related posts that were appearing at the bottom of every post have been removed. Some people loved them, some hated them, and in the end space considerations cast the deciding vote. Something similar may reappear in the future.
Links
Most of our links have been moved to a new tab at the top of the page, underneath the masthead. The ones that remain will probably move to our "Fun" page shortly.
"What fun page?" you ask. Stay tuned.
Navigation changes
Popular Stories has morphed into a menu-based combination of six different menus. This was done to conserve page space and page-loading times, and to improve access to our content. The menu, which is on the left-hand side of the page, now gives readers a selection of:
- Popular Stories (default)
- Recent Headlines (so you don't have to dig for yesterday's news)
- Recent Classifieds
- Recent Comments
- Food/Allergy Alerts
- Health Canada Alerts
Navigate to the top arrow
If you look to lower right corner of the page, you will see a little arrow that looks like this. It will always be there, even when you scroll down the page. Clicking on it brings you back to the top of the page you are on.
Teasers
Many stories will be presented in "teaser" form, ie with a small graphic and a synopsis immediately followed by "click here to read more". We will continue to publish complete stories as we have been doing, but this will allow for more stories to appear on the front page. Since we publish anywhere from five to fifteen stories a day now, space has become an issue. This method of presenting the stories will not be applied as a hard and fast rule.
Misc.
The "Contact Us" and "Advertising" tabs that were at the top of the page (under our masthead) have been amalgamated into one tab to make room for new navigation tabs that will be unveiled shortly.
The weather widget got bigger and more informative again.
New stuff at the bottom of the page, check it out.
Feedback
We welcome feedback about these changes, and any suggestions you might have. Is the page loading faster for you? Slower? Can you find what you want to find easily? Is it working the way you would like it ot on your phone?
