"In my eyes, they're still my champs and still my stars," said Sokownin.  "This was the first time we got to play on a November day," he said with a grin.

The "Heaviest Hitter" award is a large sledgehammer that went home each week with the the team member deemed most worthy of the title.   It was given out one last time for the season to Tyler Pittman.  Sokownin said Rookie of the Year Eddie Many Guns had the "potential to become the leader of this team."
Coach Brannen said "We set out 5 goals at the beginning of the season.  One, Beat Claresholm.  We did that. Two, Have a winning season.  We did that.  Three be in the top ten.  We did that.  Four, win in division.  We did that.  The fifth, win a Provincial Play-off Banner escaped us, and gives us a goal for next year."
Coach Sokownin said he weighted the team at the beginning of the year, and came up with a total of 1600 pounds, which he said meant they outweighed the Edmonton Eskimos at that point.

"Thank you so much parents for supporting us," he said.

Sokownin dropped a small bomb on his team and the crowd when he wrapped up his remarks by saying he was resigning as Senior Mustangs coach so that he could help coach the Bantam team, which counts his son as a member.    "I want to be with my boy, I want to see him come up," he said.  "Coach Peter is an excellent coach.  He has done so much for this team."  He extended praise to Coach Alexander, who he said was ill and could not attend the evening.  "Wayne Alexander was an awesome man to have come into our lives."

So, after 8 years of Sokownin-style coaching, the Senior Mustangs are in for a bit of a shake up next season. Coach Brannen seemed as surprised as anyone else, but vowed to bring home the Provincial championship next time.
