Well sports fans, it was a busy week for the Peewee Mustang football team. On Monday the Mustangs took the field at McMahon Stadium against a familiar foe in the Claresholm Raiders. The Mustang players and fans look forward to this yearly affair that the Raiders invite them to. Unfortunately for the Mustangs the familiar foe made for a familiar result, with the Raiders winning the game 32 - 6. The score does not reflect the play as both these teams are closely matched. The offense moved the ball effectively up and down the field but for whatever reason could not punch it in for the score.

Riley Sokownin toughed it out while suffering with a bad cold, Tristan Liscombe spelling Riley off. Thane Buckingham made numerous tough runs up the middle and Tyler Riviere and Jordan Hochstein making long runs to the outside. The passing game was even successful for the mustangs with completions to Brenden Lissel. The Mustangs downfall on Monday was the defense which once again allowed the long run to the outside go for all the Raiders touchdowns. Austin Bruder, Tyler Riviere, Hunter Austring, Kiy-anna Courchesne (pepper) and Thane Buckingham making big plays on Defense. One thing that the Raiders commented on after the game is that they enjoy playing the Mustangs because of the fair play and sportsmanship displayed by the Mustang players.

A rare Thursday night game capped off the week for the Mustangs. The Cardston Cougars came to town providing the opposition for the Mustangs. These 2 teams are evenly matched as well with the game being decided on the second last play. The Mustang offense again controlled the game moving the ball up and down the field but only able to muster one touchdown while allowing one touchdown on a interception, returned to the enzone by Cardston. The usual players in Tyler Riviere, Jordan Hockstein, and Thane Buckingham running amuck on the cougars behind the great blocking of the offensive line. The defense played strong against Cardston with Austin Bruder, Tyler Riviere, Kiy-anne (Pepper) Courchesne, Hunter Austring, Shay Robertson and Brenden Lissel making big plays to stall the Cardston offense. But with the daylight fading the Cougars made one long run for a touchdown on the second last paly of the game. After this game the Mustang coaches all agreed that this was the best effort that the Mustang players had put forth this season. The results did not reflect the play and the coaches were proud of the effort put in by the team.
Final score: Mustangs 6, Cougars 12.

The Pee Wee Mustangs are scheduled to play the Coaldale Bears at 10 am, Saturday, October 22 at the Matthew Halton Field.  This will probably be the last time we see them in hometown action this season.  After that they have one more regular-season game, another match versus Coaldale, this one an away-game.
