The Matthew Halton Hawks Senior Boys basketball team had some hard back-to-back games to begin their season this year, losing 91-27 on Monday December 8th to Kainai and then losing to the Livingston Sabres 92-35 on the 9th. The Hawks are struggling early on this season with only three returning Seniors from last year, and they're trying to get all their new recruits up to speed with high school ball after playing for the juniors. The team's leader in points Teigan Lissel and fellow grade 12 player Liam Nazarek are trying to get the rest of the team acquainted with the elevated level of play but it will take time and hard practice to close the wide-score margins they have lost by so far this season.
Hawks vs Sabres
Teigan Lissel, and Lachlan Terpstra led the team with 10 and 6 points in the loss against the Sabres, and Lissel was able to rack up his 4th Player of the Game nomination in only 2 games and is on track to go to back to back all star games at the end of the season. Eric Cadonic and Brandon Hilbert led their team to the win with Eric getting 20 points, and Brandon getting 17. Ross Cook was able to make an impact for the Sabres as well, making some good defensive plays and putting up 14 points, good enough to earn him a player of the game nomination as well. This was the Sabres season opener and the Hawks home opener. The Hawks drop to 0-2 and the Sabres begin their season 1-0.
The Hawks are looking to bounce back on the road against J.T. Foster's Raiders on Monday December 15 and put a win on their record. The Sabres held their first home game the next day, defeating the Noble Central Blades by a wide margin. They will be hosting the F.P. Walshe Flyers on Monday evening December 15th.
