Long time 4-H member Janet Taylor presents Friend of 4-H award to Co-op GM David Crowell |
Pincher Creek Co-op and staff has been chosen as the 2014 Friend of 4-H by the Pincher Creek and District 4-H Council. "Coop actually was nominated by two clubs this year," explained 4-H Club Volunteer Joyce Taylor. She said she wanted there to be recognition for the many things that Pincher Creek Co-op does for local 4-H Clubs.
She explained that some of the reasons presented by the clubs as to why they believe the Co-op, board and its staff deserves this award were: purchases at least two market animals every year at achievement day sales, offers 4-H member discounts on animal care and tack supplies, and supportive staff members. The Co-op has periodic fund raising opportunities for 4-H clubs, assists with local achievement days by supplying small animal paneling, and supports learning opportunities. Taylor also mentioned that the Co-op donated space to 4-H when it was available, and hosts the 4-H trophy display case in the Ranchland Mall. "That is just to mention a few," she said.
The members of each club nominate and select a 'Friend of 4-H' for their individual club. The nominee is to be a business, organization or individual that they think has supported 4-H above and beyond. Each club presents their nominee to the District Council meeting in October. A second vote occurs at District Council by representatives from all 5 clubs to choose the person, organization or business that will ultimately be recognized. Each club then presents their reasons for why their nominee was chosen before the vote occurs.
"This is very appreciated," said General Manager David Crowell who was delighted to accept the award on behalf of Pincher Creek Co-op. It was one of Crowell's last official public acts as the Pincher Creek Co-op GM, as he has accepted a new position elsewhere, to begin in January of 2015.
