Rezoning bylaw for area east of Fire Hall passes first reading

Toni Lucas

During the regular meeting of Pincher Creek Town Council on October 14, 2014 council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 1547-W to amend the land use bylaw. The amendment is to re-designate Plan 8811625, Block C, Lot 7 from Downtown/Retail Commercial - C1 to Transitional Commercial - C4. "The piece of property that the Town of Pincher Creek owns is directly east of the Fire Hall,"explained Mayor Don Anderberg. "The reason this is on the table is because it gives us a lot more options for that piece of property." The Community Housing Committee has discussed that re-zoning the property could accommodate the possible future development of multi-family dwellings to integrate with commercial expansion in the downtown area.

Council unanimously passed first reading of the bylaw, and the Town of Pincher Creek plans to hold a public hearing regarding this issue in mid November before second and third reading is held.
