Queens and Rebels tops at Halton Junior Girls Volleyball Showdown

Matthew Halton School's gymnasium was the site of a regional junior volleyball tournament on Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11.

"This is the Matthew Halton Showdown," explained Matthew Halton High School Athletic Director Randy Whitehead. "This is our fourth year of doing it." Participating were five B teams made up athletes in grades 7 and 8 and eight A teams made up of athletes in grades 7 to 9. "I think it went very good," said Whitehead. "Timewise, we are done early, which is a bonus. Things went smoothly, and there was good competition the whole weekend. It's a growing experience for them, and they had a good time." Whitehead noted that this year there were more people in the stands cheering the kids on, which he thought had a very positive effect on the players of all teams.

The spirit of clean and friendly competition was evident throughout the tournament.

Results

Games were played to a best of three sets. In the B Division Picture Butte's Queens won first place, with Livingstone's Sabres taking second and St. Michael's Dragons earning third. W.R. Meyers' Rebels earned first in the A division, with Raymond's Comets earning second and F.P. Walshe's Flyers 9 earning third place.
